Loco Luke was a cowboy and a bounty hunter.
History
Loco Luke was a cowboy who tried to capture the infamous outlaw Black Dan. He was tremendously unsuccessful, and Black Dan stole his clothes, twice. During his adventures he befriended an Indian by the name of Turkey Tail, who helped him every time his clothes were stolen.[1][2]
In his last adventure, he kissed the daughter of Chief Growling Dog, who was about to murder him for it.[3]
Notes
- This version of Loco Luke, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–1986 crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the 2022-2023 crossover event Dark Crisis. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
Trivia
- Loco Luke's adventures would continue outside of National Allied Publications. His comic strip was picked up by the George Matthew Adams Newspaper Service, and was syndicated to newspapers that would publish the comic strip in their Sunday comics sections from July 5, 1935 to April 4, 1936. Some of these strips were reprinted in Dell Comics' series Popular Comics.
- An older, fatter Loco Luke appeared in a feature titled "Pony Trails" by Jack A. Warren in Novelty Press's comic book Blue Bolt #1 in 1940. In Blue Bolt #10, Luke's name was changed to Crisco. "Pony Trails" continued to appear sporadically in Blue Bolt until issue #82. It is unclear if this is supposed to be the same Loco Luke from New Fun, although some characters, such as his horse Charley and Turkey Tail the Indian, appear in both strips.
