Lois is Queen Hippolyta's spy and agent in the outside world.
History
Lois worked for years to try to prevent war between the House of El and the Kingdom of the Storms. Despite her efforts, Jor-El was assassinated on the orders of King Jefferson, escalating tensions between the rival kingdoms and making war seem almost inevitable. Lois raced back to Amazonia to inform Hippolyta of what had happened, and also to tell Princess Zala, Jor-El's daughter, that he had been killed. Zala immediately departed to be with her family.[1]
Shortly afterwards, Lois' spies reported to her that King Jefferson's son Jacob had been murdered in retribution for Jor-El's death. Jefferson came to Amazonia to speak with Hippolyta, accompanied by Lois' counterpart in his court, John Constantine. Although the Kingdom of the Storms and the Amazons were long standing allies, Lois did not trust Constantine and feared he may be planning to kill Hippolyta as well, but Hippolyta assured her they could trust the Kingdom of the Storms.
Hippolyta, Lois and Princess Diana met Jefferson and Constantine with on Jefferson's ship, where he admitted having Jor-El killed, as he believed that the Els were a threat to the world. He also told them that Jacob had been murdered by Zala which Diana, Zala's lover, insisted was impossible. Lois pointed out that Zala could have killed all of them in a surprise attack, suggesting there may have been an ulterior motive in Jacob's death, but Jefferson simply said that he was going to war against the Els and asked Hippolyta to join them. Due to the Amazon's alliance with the Kingdom, Hippolyta said she would join him if war was inevitable and Diana stormed out. Lois found Diana saddling her pegasus, planning to reunite with Zala and tell the Els what had happened. Although this was technically treason Lois encouraged her to go, hoping she may be able to prevent the war. However, Jefferson was also seemingly murdered by Zala shortly after setting sail for home and Hippolyta began marshalling the Amazons for war.[2]
Just before the Amazon fleet was due to depart, Prince Kal-El came to Amazonia, hoping to speak to Hippolyta and convince her to stand down, but Hippolyta refused to listen to him and ran him through with her magic sword. Kal-El was imprisoned and Lois visited him in his cell, where he had been bound with an unbreakable magic rope that compelled him to tell the truth. She told him that she was Zala's friend and had always counselled Hippolyta not to believe Constantine's prophecy that the Els would doom the world, but Zala murdering Jacob and Jefferson meant that Hippolyta was no longer willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. She also confessed that she believed all sides were being influenced into war by some outside force. Kal-El begged Lois to convince Hippolyta to wait, but she told him it was too late and the Amazon fleet had already set sail.[3]
Lois accompanied Hippolyta and the Amazon army to join up with the forces from the Kingdom of Storms. She met Constantine at the Pierce's camp and told him her suspicions that they were all being manipulated, and told him that Zala's reported actions did not match the girl she knew. However, John was blinded by his grief for Jefferson and refused to listen. The armies marched on the Castle of El, where Hippolyta asked Queen Lara and Zala to surrender peacefully, but Lara refused and killed Hippolyta in front of the assembled armies.[4]
The three armies charged into battle against each other. Meanwhile, the Green Man, an ostensible ally of the Kingdom of Storms, turned on them and began attacking both sides indiscriminately. Just before the two sides made contact, the Bat-Prince flew in on a dragon and ordered both sides to stop, but broke off from this to confront Kal-El, who he accused of trying to kill him. Lois was hiding nearby and overheard them. She ran to where Constantine was sitting at the edge of the battlefield and once again told him that they were being manipulated. He admitted she was right and that Lara's actions made no sense.
With all sense of discipline destroyed the three armies fell into a chaotic melee which could destroy all of them. Suddenly Lara was tackled down to Earth by her exact doppleganger. The battle paused as the three armies stopped fighting and for a moment stared in silent shock at the two Lara's. The Lara who had killed Hippolyta was shot in the chest with a flaming crossbow bolt and burst into flames. She transformed into a white-skinned monster and flew away.[5]
After the battle, Lois met with John Constantine and the El's advisor Harley Quinn in a small chamber of the Castle of El. They all acknowledged that they had been played and had failed their monarchs and kingdoms, but also agreed to work together and come up with a plan to foil the invaders.[6] Together they came up with the idea to trigger an eruption of Mount Kristoff, a volcano that Jor-El and Lara had saved the Lands of El from when they first revealed themselves; and rain fire down on the Martians. The advisors presented their plan to the queens and they agreed. When the Martians attacked just before dawn the next day, the El's and Diana drew the Martians away to Mount Kristoff, where the Pierce's triggered the eruption and Prince Jacob protected the castle with a rainstorm. The Martians were defeated and banished to a Realm of Phantoms.
A week later, the three kingdoms decided to unite into a League. At the treaty signing ceremony, John said they should celebrate saving the world, but Lois told him there were still many threats they needed to prepare for. Constantine jokingly suggested that they could drink and plot at the same time.[7]
