Lois Lane is an agent of Lazarus Corp and a member of their elite Phenomena Field Team.

Lois' father Sam Lane was a general for Lazarus. He taught her that "Lazarus is life" and that the Omega Men were dangerous terrorists. Among other things he forced her to watch a video of a soldier being tortured to death by the Omega Men when she was twelves. Three years ago, Sam was crippled by Omega Prime, the leader of the Omega Men, prompting Lois to join Lazarus. She was one of their best young agents and quickly rose through the ranks to join Phenomena. Although she and her father do not agree on everything, Lois believes genuinely believes that the Omega Men are murderers who butcher people in the name of freedom;[1] and Lazarus, for all its faults, does bring peace, security, and development to countries in the third world.[2]

Phenomena were tasked to capture Superman, who had been appearing at their sites around the developing world. Lazarus' Peacemaker army cornered Superman at the Lajes Creek diamond mine in Brazil and Phenomena flew in. They arrived just as Superman was about to flee, having driven the Peacemakers back, and so Lois cuffed herself to him using advanced restraints made from alien technology. She pointed her energy blaster at his head told him she would "fry" him if he tried to move.[3]

Superman tried to break the cuffs, but could not despite his strength. Lane ordered him to surrender and shot him when he did not; he was not harmed but the blast did appear to hurt him. Superman's suit flowed over the cuffs in an attempt to break them, which Lois and the assembled Lazarus troops took to be an attack on her. The others opened fired on Superman and he shielded Lois, releasing a cloud of red dust from his armour to protect them both. Lois again blasted him and told him to give himself up, saying that Lazarus did not want him dead, but he instead leapt high into the air, carrying her with him.

They were shot down by a Lazarus helitank and fell to earth in a village eight miles to the East. Superman made sure Lane was shielded by the cloud and that he held her as she landed to protect her from the impact; but as soon as they landed she once again blasted him. While he was temporarily incapacitated she tried to call for backup but his armour blocked her transmission. Superman asked Lois why she wants to arrest him after he had saved her life several times; but she retorted that he had endangered her while trying to escape lawful custody, and endangered everyone around him by being so powerful. She demands to know where his powers came from, saying that people had a right to know. Superman replied that Lazarus didn't care about rights. Superman said that people like her only saw others as livestock. He said that she represented everything wrong with "your planet", letting slip that he is an alien. She asked what his planet was but suddenly the helitank fires on them and barely misses.

Sol warned Superman to stop talking, but suddenly the helitank fired on their position and barely missed. The villagers fled for shelter in a church and Superman hurled a car at the helitank. He brought the tank down, but unfortunately it crashed into the church. Lois told Superman not to worry about her and he ran in to save the people with Lois still cuffed to his wrist. While observing him, Lois learned that although Superman's suit as obviously advanced beyond any human technology, it was not the source of his powers. She also realised that Superman himself did not fully realise the extent of his powers and seemed in some ways shy with the air of a lost child; yet also commanding and confident with an unshakeable moral code. Neither of these sides appeared to an artifice, as if Superman could be nothing but purely honest. Although she did not admit it, she was intensely attracted to him.

At one point Superman was temporarily overwhelmed struggling to get his heat vision under control and Lois had the chance to shoot him. She chose not to and he thanked her. Lois was flustered and awed at seeing him rescue everyone and stammered until she could say "you're welcome". Superman told her that most worlds in the universe were dead, and one like Earth that could support life was precious. He was about to tell her the name of his planet when the cuffs suddenly popped open. Lane asked Superman to stay and talk to her but he leapt away without a word.

The Lazarus forces took Lois back to headquarters, where she had to make a full report. Lois usually hated paperwork and used an AI tool called "Brainiac" to generate her reports for her based on her responses to a series of questions, a common and even encouraged practice within Lazarus. However, Lois was frustrated by Brainiac as it appeared to interpret her prompts as her saying that Superman was dangerous and should be eliminated, which she did not mean at all. She decided to write it manually instead in order to record all of her nuanced thoughts, and was surprised by how good it felt to do so.[2]

Lois was determined to track Superman down and went to every Lazarus facility he had passed through to speak to people he had met, promising them that she wanted to help Superman before he accidentally hurt someone. She told them that she understood why they did not trust Lazarus but asked them to trust her, and tried to earn that trust by beating and imprisoning Peacemakers who had abused workers. However, the people still refused to help her. Each of them told her that being in Superman's presence had changed them and her, and they were all drawn to seek him out, but could not find him. They said that Superman's anger at Lazarus and the injustice they represented would only grow, until one day he would not be able to stop himself from killing them all, a day all of their workers were praying for.

Lois went to the scene of Superman's last battle with the Peacemakers in the slums of Orangi Town in Pakistan. She went out to investigate alone without her security detail, hoping that she would be able to interact directly with the local population and get them to trust her. As she was searching the wreckage her father called her and criticised her for not taking her detail with her. He said that there was no talking to someone like Superman and she should be trying to simply destroy him, but she insisted that Superman did not want to harm anyone, pointing out that despite destroying billions of dollars worth of hardware, he had not killed a single soldier. Sam then wanted to ask her about not using the Brainiac system and she ended the call.

Lois went out alone into the streets of Orangi Town, hoping to draw out Superman. She quickly realised she was being followed and ambushed one of the people stalking her in an alley. The man, who was codenamed Alpha, quickly admitted to being a member of the Omega Men but insisted he was not trying to kill Lois and simply wanted to talk to her. She refused to listen and tried to arrest him, but he set off a flashbang that temporarily blinded her. Lois was still able to fight blind and attacked him, but as they fought Alpha told her that there were things she didn't know about Lazarus and its mysterious Director, and that she was on the wrong side. Lois refused to listen and, when her vision cleared, pointed her gun at him and told him to surrender. Alpha told her he had hoped she would be ready to accept the truth after everything she had seen, but if she didn't she needed to run. Suddenly, Omega Prime stepped out of an alley and started firing on Lois, planning to kill her as Alpha had failed to convince her. Lois ran into cover and the Brainiac system automatically called for backup despite her telling it not to; it also loaded her gun with "eviscerator rounds" despite her telling it to only use non-lethal rounds so the Omega Men could be taken alive. Omega Prime destroyed Lois' gun with a sword and attacked her, with Lois using her baton to parry the attacks. Alpha pointed his gun at both of them and asked them to stand down so they could talk it out, when suddenly Superman's cloud of red dust blasted through the street and knocked the Omega Men down while bending around Lois.

Superman dropped out of the sky in front of Lois and ordered her to stop looking for him. She said she just wanted to talk to him but Superman replied he had nothing to say to her. Lois asked him to just listen but suddenly the Peacemakers ran in and pulled her out. They squared off against Superman but he simply froze them in place with a blast of freezing air. Superman leapt away and the Omega Men escaped in the confusion. Lois berated the frozen Peacemakers and told them she hoped it hurt. When the Peacemakers were freed one of them, a man named Christopher Smith; murdered a crowd on onlookers in a rage-fuelled rampage, believing that they were laughing at him.[1]

Lois was able to track Superman's first encounter with Lazarus and landing site on Earth to a farm in Smallville, Kansas five years ago. A married couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent, had owned the farm at the time; but by the present day Jonathan was dead and Martha was in the final stages of dementia and living in a nursing home. Nevertheless, Lois went to Smallville Senior Living to speak to Martha in the hopes of learning something that could help her find Superman.[4]

Lois was not able to get any useful information about Superman from Martha, but her research revealed that in the five years since Superman came to Earth multiple strange incidents had occurred in Smallville, with natural disasters being averted and people mysteriously being saved from danger. Lois realised that Superman frequently visited Smallville in secret and so remained in town, believing he would show up eventually. Lois met Superman on Smallville's main street outside the Sequoia theatre, but Alpha was also there, hoping to recruit Superman into the Omega Men. They each tried to convince Superman to listen to them but quickly became distracted arguing with each other and Superman disappeared. Lois called out to Superman, believing that he was nearby, and said that she believed he kept coming back to Smallville because he was looking for someone he could trust and said that could be her. Alpha retorted that Superman had come to fight for Smallville after Lazarus had bought up the town. They argued again until Superman flew down in front of them and yelled at them that he had come to Smallville to stop himself from killing Smith.

Suddenly, Superman was hit in the chest by a bullet made of a mysterious green glowing material which somehow punched through his armour and his invulnerable skin, lodging deep in his chest. He collapsed to the ground and nearby a force of Peacemakers rappelled down from their helicopters onto main street. Alpha assumed Lois had lead them to Superman and pulled his gun on her. She pointed her own gun at him and denied having anything to do with it. She told him that they would never agree on anything, but if Superman died at their feet while they argued they would regret it for the rest of their lives. They put their conflict aside and carried Superman into a nearby drugstore. Alpha suggested that he could call the Omega Men to extract them, but before he could do anything Smith, now a powerful cyborg, smashed through the wall and attacked. Superman fought with Smith, but Smith's new strength and the bullet sapping Superman's powers meant the crazed Peacemaker was able to overpower him.

Lois and Alpha ran out to defend Superman, standing between him and Smith. Lois ordered the Peacemakers to arrest Smith for his murders in Pakistan but they refused and told her that she would be the one who ended up in a cell if she tried to stop them. A group of Smallville citizens armed with rifles also came out and ordered them all to get out of the town. One of the Peacemakers suggested to Smith that they simply take superman and go but smith refused as he wanted to kill Superman then and there. Superman activated his armour's battle configuration and summoned up a cyclone of the red dust that scattered everyone except for him and Smith. He hit Smith a thousand times in thirty seconds, bringing the mad behemoth to his knees, but Smith just mocked Superman for being afraid of his own rage and power and shot Superman repeatedly with the irradiated bullets. The armour's systems failed and Superman collapsed. Although he still tried to resist, he was helpless and Smith moved in for the kill.

Fortunately, before Smith could finish Superman off, he was remotely shut down as Lazarus Corp's director Ra's al Ghul wanted him taken alive. Realising he would likely die without immediate medical attention, Superman weakly asked Alpha to get him out of there. Alpha called in the Omega Men, lead by Primus, who teleported in via a portal. They carried Superman to safety through it, but Primus refused to let Lois follow. The portal closed, leaving Lois surrounded by the Peacemakers. She surrendered and whispered to herself "What the hell have I done?".[5]
