Lois Lane is the star reporter for the major Metropolitan newspaper, the Daily Planet. She married her coworker, Clark Kent, secretly the hero Superman.
History
Early Life
Lois Lane was born in 1967,[12] as the first of two daughters to Dr. Sam and Ellen Lane. Lois attended Metropolis High and joined the Daily Planet in 1989.[7][13] Over the next four years, Lois rose to become the newspaper's star reporter. However, her personal life was a bit more problematic, with boyfriends being scared off by her intelligence. She attempted to date a co-worker named Claude but made the mistake of telling him about a story she was working on. The next morning, both he and the story (which Claude won an award for) were gone. Because of this, Lois made three rules for herself; never get involved with the story, never let anyone get there first and never sleep with co-workers.[12]
Season One
Lois' life would forever change from her meeting three men (in actuality, two) the first was a new reporter at the Daily Planet; Clark Kent, having grown cynical over the years, Lois was ready to write Clark off as just another male co-worker (someone who might steal her stories, if she wasn't careful) the second man was billionaire Lex Luthor, whom Lois was set on getting the first one-on-one interview with. After they met, Lex took an interest in her and began pursuing her romantically. Around this time, Lois got a lead on a plot to sabotage a space program. Lois managed to sneak onboard a spaceship, set to complete a space station. She discovered a bomb and tried to prevent the launch, which would've killed everyone onboard. That's when she encountered the third man: a man dressed in red cape and blue tights, who ran in and ate the bomb. It exploded inside of him, without harming him. Afterwards, the man pushed the spaceship into orbit and returned Lois to Metropolis. Lois soon named the man "Superman".[12]
Lois soon became obsessed with getting an interview with Superman.[14] Their paths would regularly cross. Because of their interactions, Lois also attracted the attention of Bureau 39. An agency, that regarded Superman as a threat to Earth and national security.[15] Over time, Lois began to develop a friendship with Clark and a romantic relationship with Lex. However, her career with the Daily Planet seemed to have come to an end, when the newspaper was bombed. After this, Lois accepted two things from Lex: a job at his TV station and his marriage proposal. The ceremony was interrupted, when her former co-workers and the police stormed the church. Clark, Perry White and Jimmy Olsen had managed to expose Lex's criminal activities (which had included the bombing of the Daily Planet). However, Lois had already decided not to marry Lex, who committed suicide, rather than facing prison.[16][17]
Season Two
Despite having died, Lex Luthor cast a long shadow of Lois' life. Lex's ex-wife, Ariana Carlin, blamed Lois and Superman for his death and wanted revenge. Using an imposter, Ariana set out to frame Lois for murdering Superman. However, Lois and Superman both managed to foil Ariana's plans.[13]
There were more problems on the horizon for Lois. Kyle Griffin, a man Lois had put away in 1989, got out and set out for payback against her.[18] Furthermore, in the power vacuum left behind by Lex, a new criminal organization called Intergang, emerged in Metropolis.[19] Finally, a scientist named Gretchen Kelly managed to resurrect Lex. Lois was kidnapped by Lex, who wanted her back. Superman managed to save her, with Lex going to prison.[20]
After Mayson Drake was murdered, Lois met and began dating a DEA-agent named Dan Scardino.[6] Her friendship with Clark took an unexpected turn, after the two had to travel to 1966, to prevent a criminal named Tempus from killing the infant Kal-El. During a confrontation with Tempus, he revealed to her that Clark and Superman were one and the same. This enraged Lois, however she soon calmed down and had her memories erased, as it wasn't yet time for her to learn his secret.[21]
Lois' relationship with Dan Scardino ended, after she proved unable to accept the fact that he couldn't tell her about his work (as he was a DEA-agent, involved in secret operations, while she was a reporter). Resulting in them both almost getting killed by Intergang. After this, Lois began a romantic relationship with Clark, now considering Superman just a friend.[22][23]
Season Three
Clark soon proposed, during which Lois revealed that she was figured out that he was Superman. At that time, they didn't get engaged.[24] A few months later, Lois' world would get turned upside down again, when Clark's powers were transferred to her. As this prevented Clark from continuing his activities as Superman, Lois had to create her own costumed persona as "Ultra Woman". During which, Lois discovered the hardship Clark had to deal with. Sometimes having to choose who to save, not making it to somewhere in time. The powers were eventually returned, with Lois returning to her normal life and getting engaged to Clark.[25]
However, not long after, Tempus returned and dumped Lois into an alternate reality. One, where she was dead, and Clark hadn't become Superman. Working with H.G. Wells, whom Tempus had also left there, Lois managed to help this other Clark become Superman and returned to her own reality.[26] On her wedding day, more problems emerged, when she was kidnapped by Lex and replaced by a clone.[27] Both Lex and the clone were soon killed. During the kidnapping, Lois had been injured and suffered from memory problems for a while.[28] She eventually recovered, but the wedding plans were again put off, when Clark's Kryptonian wife appeared on Earth and needing his help on New Krypton. Because his duties to his people, Clark and Lois were once more split apart.[29][30]
Season Four
The separation wouldn't prove long, as Clark returned, after Lord Nor invaded Earth and Clark returned to fight him. Afterwards, Lois got back together with Clark, after his marriage to Zara was annulled.[31][32] Lois and Clark got married,[33] but their problems weren't over. On their wedding night, H.G. Wells returned and revealed that he needed their help to undo a curse. Otherwise, Lois would die.[3]
After that problem was resolved, a new problem found Lois, when she was framed for murder by Jefferson Cole, a man she had once put away. Lois was convicted, but broke out with Clark's help and soon proved herself innocent of the murder.[34][4] However, the shadow of Lex was still over Lois' life, when she had to tangle with Leslie Luckabee and his employer, Lex Luthor, Jr.. Lex's son tried to make her love him, but Luckabee turned on him. Allowing Lois and Clark to escape, while Luckabee and Luthor were both killed in an explosion.[35] Lois was briefly made the editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet. However, she disliked the position and soon returned to her old job.[11]
However, not all problems were external. Lois' marriage to an alien began to show its problems: between him having a much longer lifespan and being incapable of having children with a human.[36][37] The latter would have an unexpected resolution, when Lois and Clark found a baby in their living room. Wrapped in a blanket, carrying Superman's symbol and a note announcing the boy as their son.[37]
