The Lorelei is a figure from German folklore, a siren that sits on a rock on a dangerous bend in the Rhine and enchants sailors. She was a ruler of the Fairyland of Grimmworld and an enemy of Mary Marvel, the Justice Society and others. For the Atlantis Chronicles, Lorelei was a former queen of Atlantis, the mother of Atlan and grandmother of Aquaman. Several other women, often alluring intrigants, have also borne this name.
The Lorelei was first adapted in Wow Comics #15 (1943). The Aquaman character was created by Peter David and Esteban Maroto and first appeared in Atlantis Chronicles #5 (1990).
