The Hunger Dogs
Living a life of absolute poverty and abuse, the Lowlies had to work hard and scavenge to get their food. That sentiment led some of them to form a rebel group known as the Hunger Dogs. Led by Jovita, this secret group smuggled food from the war machines and gave it to those in need. However, the presence of Orion in Apokolips drew Darkseid's attention to this group, and they were hunted by Tyrus and Kalibak. Orion helped them escape, and they had to find a new hideout and organize their forces again.[1]
One day, a Hunger Dog named Grags while skimming the Fire Pits found a man who had survived the hellish fires. Seeking monetary reward for his find, he took the man out. That man was Superman, who had just lost his memory; he, alongside Amazing Grace, led a revolution against the tyrannical Darkseid, but unbeknownst to anyone they were actually just serving the latter. Superman led the revolution right into a trap that allowed the Parademons to ambush the Hunger Dogs, killing many of them.[2] According to Darkseid, he did that just to remind them of his power. Orion managed to both restore Superman's memory and erase both his knowledge of, and his guilt over, the thousands that had died because of his actions under Grace's influence.[3]
Earth 2
The DC Universe heavily changed its continuity into the DCnU following the events of Flashpoint in 2011. This was part of an effort to make storylines more accessible to newer readers, beginning with the New 52. This new timeline combines elements from the DCU, Vertigo Universe and Wildstorm Universe while drastically changing the origins and histories of characters.
In The New 52, the Hunger Dogs are a villainous team based on Earth 2 and work for Steppenwolf. The members include Brutaal, Bedlam, and Beguiler.
