Lupo Dorish, known as the Dead Shot, was a villain of The Whip.

History

While the Whip grew his notoriety by taking down outlaws since he was seventeen, Lupo Dorish was feared as the Dead Shot, a criminal with such perfect aim that all of his victims sport identical bullet holes between their eyes. He built up a gang of seven riders, including Ed and Chubs, to terrorize the American Old West.

After riding into Blackville, Dorish and his gang robbed a bank, leaving no survivors. Bank worker Jeb Haskins attempted to stop them, but he fell as well. Dorish and his riders escaped to a nearby town shortly before the Whip arrived at the bank. Ed urged him to hideout, but Dorish insisted on discovering if a posse was after them. They return to Blackville and ask a telegram messenger for information, but the confrontation results in the messenger's death. While going through his files Dorish discovers a shipment of $75,000 worth of gold. He told his game they would steal it, but Ed had his reservations, saying that the plan would "bring Uncle Sam down on [their] necks."

Ed attempted to double-cross Dead Shot, but Chub revealed Ed's plans and Dorish killed him. Dorish carries out the heist, but the Whip catches up to them on his horse, Diablo. The two confront each other, but before Dorish can get a shot off, the Whip uses his lariat to reverse the gun to fire the bullet back at Dorish, killing him with an identical bullet wound between his eyes.

• This version of Lupo Dorish, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022–2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  

Trivia

• In the following issue, the Whip confronts corrupt investment broker Lard Marraway, who claims to be the "master mind of the outlaw gangs" in the entire territory. It is unknown if Dorish and his gang were involved in Marraway's outlaw syndicate.
