Notes
- The M-Vest was originally introduced as Shade the Changing Man/Rac Shade's hallucination-inducing suit in Shade, the Changing Man (Volume 1) during the Pre-Crisis continuity. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, another version of the Vest was worn throughout the Modern Age by a different Rac Shade, first appearing in Shade, the Changing Man (Volume 2) #1.
- In the Post-Flashpoint continuity, the Madness Vest was reintroduced as Rac Shade's power suit in Justice League Dark #1. The suit was later passed to Loma Shade during the Rebirth era.
- During the Bronze Age, it was already established that the M-Vest was linked to the Area of Madness. However, the Post-Crisis events of Shade, the Changing Man (Volume 2) further explored this connection, while the origin of the Area of Madness was tied to Desire of the Endless from the Sandman continuity.[citation needed]
