The Mad Yak Café is a trendy coffee house located in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island.
History
It is owned by an aging hippie named Riker, who says that he established the café in order to provide a comfortable atmosphere independent of the more fashionable corporate-run coffee shops. Riker often employed his son to help with the day to day operations, but the boy, a neo-anarchist, openly hated working alongside his father.
Patrons who frequently visited Riker's place include the down-and-out former hero Snapper Carr, his ex-wife Bethany Lee and the futuristic super-hero Hourman.
During the "Day of Judgment" affair, a demon named Torcher raided the Mad Yak and attempted to burn it down. Snapper Carr soothed the demon's aggressive tendencies by feeding him some of Riker's delicious cheesecake. Torcher decided to forego his more violent urges and became a regular patron at the café.[1]
