Great. Just what the world needs--another black guy with lightning powers...
Malik White src

Malik Adam White is the descendant of Black Adam and medical student whom inherited the Living Lighting from him, transforming him into the hero known as Bolt.

A medical student working in New York, Malik is sought out by Shakur Nassar, a Kahndaqi politician who seeks out Malik to lead the reformation movement in Kahndaq in which would oust Black Adam from rule but ends up killed, with Malik being a prime suspect.[1] Meeting Black Adam, he grants him his powers as he lays in near death due to a supposed extraterrestrial illness but opts to attempt to help him, saving him by using the Living Lightning.[2][3]

Malik would first suspect the tea or teacup Adam recently drunk to be the culprit behind his illness[3] but following a battle by Etrigan done to make him embrace his newfound path, finds himself having the same illness.[4], which turns out to be a form of an allergic reaction to Nth metal from the signet ring given to Malik by Teth that allowed him to transfer his powers to him.[5]

After his revelation of having the same illness that plagued Teth-Adam, Malik rushed home from the hospital, in a quick effort to locate the signet ring that he was given. Upon arriving, he found a mysterious figure, Sargon, the King of the Akkad in his room awaiting him. Unbothered, Malik searched his apartment for the ring, but ultimately did not find it, believing his sister, who had a penchant for pawning things, stole it. [6] Malik learns from his Godly guest that they were looking for Teth-Adam, but promptly kicked him out upon his sister's return, imploring her to recover his ring. Deciding that he needed to find Teth-Adam on his own, Malik departed, but before he took flight, he lamented the fact that he had to wear a cape, and discovered that the Living Lightning had heard him, and transformed his outfit from having a cape to a cropped jacket. Shortly after while in flight, he settled on the superhero alias, Bolt.[6]

Malik travels to the last known location of Black Adam, an empty warehouse in Washington, D.C. Immediately upon entering the warehouse, a trap based off of reflective light that is sourced by his suit is set off, however Malik's speaking of the magic word disables it. Discovering a throne and a virtual reality setup that is later identified as a TMS (Transcranial magnetic stimulation) machine programmed with Teth-Adam's memories, Malik realizes that the warehouse was a trap for Black Adam. Unable to speak the magic word, Malik returns to the simulation in order to circumvent the a neural inhibitor that was preventing him from breaking free of the trap. In the simulation, Malik learns of Teth-Adam's early days as the Wizard's Champion, a protector of the people and enemy of darkness. From this simulated version of Teth-Adam's past, Adam teaches Malik the values that he must uphold as a successor; Love Justice, Show Mercy, and to Walk Humbly. And with his last breath before oxygen ran out in the warehouse, he spoke the magic word to explode the warehouse in its entirety, freeing both him and Mirror Master.[6]

Malik's separation from his signet ring quickly resulted in his condition worsening. He was brought to Khandaq after the explosion in Washington where the royal medical officers were taking care of him. Resting, Teth-Adam told Malik the story of how he overthrew a tyrant and became ruler of their country.[7] In the midst of it, Malik's close friend Jasmin was given the signet ring by a mysterious figure, a declared member of the Akkad, and transported the ring to the Khandaqi embassy, where a transporter brought her to Malik in Khandaq where she could deliver the ring.[8]
