Manhunter #8 is an issue of the series Manhunter (Volume 1) with a cover date of Holiday, 1988.

Synopsis for "Flash Point, Part One"

Mark Shaw arrives at the West's mansion and meets with Mary. She tells Mark that her son, Wally, currently known as the Flash, is not ready to be a superhero and has gotten involved in some alien plot of his father's, Rudolph West, in Cuba. Because Wally is not yet 21 Mary wants Mark to find him and bring him home. She also tells Mark because he calls himself Manhunter and the Manhunter cult ruined her life, Mark owes her. Mark agrees as redemption was his primary reason for calling himself Manhunter. Mark arrives at the airport only to learn that Wally is on board a now-departing cargo plane. Mark switches to Manhunter and manages to magnetically cling to the outside of the plane. As the plane approaches Cuba, it is downed by military shells as Manhunter's power baton runs out of energy and both Manhunter and the plane fall to separate parts of the island.

Manhunter wakes in the jungle after about 1.5 to 2 hours and his baton has recharged to 50%. He tracks down the plane but no one is there and a large section of the jungle is missing. Using his tracking skills, he manages to find Wally and Chunk who are being held by Cuban soldiers and Fidel Castro. Four soldiers are about to fire on the heroes and Manhunter throws his Power Baton, magnetic field on, over them and the guns are pulled out of the soldiers' hands. One of the trees appears to reach for him and Manhunter runs, believing he is hallucinating. Another tree limb turns into a snake with a Durlan's head and constricts Manhunter into unconciousness.

Manhunter wakes up with his hands tied behind his back and surrounded by Durlans. One reveals that the Cubans, including Castro, are surrounded, a duplicate is in place and the other Durlans are shifting into soldiers. Manhunter pretends to be from the Manhunter cult and be an ally but the Durlans reveal they hate the Manhunters more than humans. Manhunter promptly attacks and regains his power baton while the real Cuban soldiers open fire on the aliens. The Durlans try to regroup and find Manhunter but he has slipped away. Manhunter's mask has recorded the Durlan heat-patterns in order to find them despite their appearance. Manhunter finds Wally's tent and spies a Durlan (Saseetha), disguised as a human female, slipping inside with a gun. He stops her but is plucked by a bird-shaped Durlan. High in the sky Manhunter zaps the bird and plummets to the ground using the baton to bounce and a grappling line to swing to safety. Saseetha, meanwhile, rejoins her comrades and they change plans. Now they plan to attack Castro at dawn and they must slay Manhunter before he interferes again.

Manhunter is exhausted, thirsty, overheating and sore but he continues to fight and take down every Durlan he comes across for as long as he can. Eventually he comes across Saseetha who threatens him. Manhunter impresses her with his bravado and she comes to realize why the alliance fears humanity...their passion makes them implacable enemies. She no longer sees long term value in their plans and leaves to change them. Manhunter collapses once she's gone.

He awakens to the sounds of cheering, Castro is taking credit for disrupting the alien plans. In the crowd is Rudy West and Manhunter asks him about Wally who, Rudy says, is already on a plane heading home. Rudy offers Manhunter a change of clothing and they head off.

The Flash Vol 2 21 — The Flash (Volume 2) #21

This issue is an Invasion! First Strike extra, and a tie-in to the larger story told in the Invasion! miniseries. These crossovers take place in between Invasion! #1 and Invasion! #2, largely dealing with the Alien Alliance's assault on Earth and the way heroes around the world were participating in the initial war effort.

This story occurs concurrently with Flash #21 where Manhunter appears behind the scenes saving the Flash's life as he does in this issue. The characters will follow into Invasion! #2, then Flash #22 and Manhunter #9 before their team-up ends in Invasion! #3.
