Margo Webster briefly was a magician in Shanghai, and created some problems for the Japanese occupiers.
History
In 1941, in Shanghai, an American traveling conjurer, and his daughter and son, ran afoul of the Japanese occupiers of that city. "Presto" Webster, the stage magician, called on the Rulers of Darkness to aid him, and did a hypnotic magic trick; he influenced three riflemen to aim at himself, thus sparing Margo his daughter and Jimmy his son. But before he died, he whispered a powerful secret into Margo's ear.
Soldiers tried to arrest them then but Margo Webster got away. Jimmy was manhandled away to a jail and this was witnessed by an American reporter, Chick Benson, who also got arrested. Elsewhere in crowded Shanghai, two soldiers spotted Margo and tried to arrest her. Margo threw a rock at them, and the rock grew to a terrible size then returned to normal, and bounced off one soldier's helmet. They ran away. Margo the Magician marched into the jailhouse and turned some soldiers' legs into tree trunks, melted some rifles, and borrowed some keys, then set free her brother and his new friend Chick. They teamed up with two Chinese soldiers, the brothers Hi and Lo. Together they stole a Japanese freight train, and its cargo of food, and got it to some starving Chinese refugees.

- This version of Margo the Magician, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
