Maria Kyle was the wife of Brian Kyle and the mother of Maggie and Selina Kyle, whose death led to her becoming a thief and vigilante known as Catwoman. In some continuities, her abusive husband led her to commit suicide. In others, she had Selina with the gangster Carmine Falcone, who killed her afterwards. In any case, her death made Selina cold and protective, and inspired her to become a criminal as an adult.
