History

Mark Mandrill spent years trying to discover the secret of all alchemy - the formula which would change base metal into gold. One day a vial of chemicals exploded and in a panic Mandrill ordered it to stay away from him. To his utter amazement, the chemical solution halted in mid-air. By experimenting further with the chemicals which had exploded, he realised that he had hit upon a new substance he labelled Mentachem. This new chemical gave him mental domination over any material in its natural state. He then began stealing rare art masterpieces, historical objects and money.

• Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact.
