History
Markovia is the country of origin of heroes Geo-Force and Terra.
During World War II, Markovia was occupied by Nazis. When they were defeated, most of the Nazis were banished from the place by the United States Army and the kingdom was restored under King Victor's rule. However, Baron Bedlam, a former Nazi who had occupied Markovia, tried to reclaim the throne several years later, causing the death of Viktor. In the ensuing armed confrontation, Bedlam tried to murder the rightful heir Gregor, but he was stopped and defeated by the youngest son of Viktor, Brion, who had gained super-powers and become Geo-Force. With Bedlam out of action, his army was easily defeated by the Outsiders and peace was restored to Markovia.[1]
When Brion Markov assumed his role as Prince of Markovia, his life was threatened by an unknown killer. For this reason, the people of Markovia began to riot across the streets until the killer was captured by the Outsiders.[2]

Notes
- In Batman and the Outsiders #1, Markovia was said to be in Eastern Europe, and the map accompanying it put between France, Belgium and Luxembourg - not Eastern Europe by any stretch of the imagination. The Atlas of the DC Universe describes it as a Western European republic located just west of Lake Como, taking the place of the southern tip of Switzerland's Ticino canton. Guide to the DC Universe Secret Files and Origins #2000 also calls it Western European, and places it in the border region of Austria and Hungary.
