Martin "Marty" Ryan is the brother of Matthew "Red" Ryan of the Challengers of the Unknown and a singer under the name Tino Manarray.

History

When Red evidently dies of an explosion, Tino played a show across town. As the Challs continued their adventures, Tino plotted their destruction. He teamed up with an electrical-powered giant and trapped the Challengers at gunpoint before breaking down in tears and admitting that he was distraught over his brother's death. He helped the heroes defeat the villain and the team offered him membership, which he declined.

In spite of his stated reluctance to join, he proceeded to rescue the heroes from a pool of mercury, a petrified giant, and a shape-shifting monster who turned out to be a living Red, under mind control by Multi-Man.

He was later blinded by a magic ruby wielded by Kaftu, Son of the Silent Sphinx and Red donated his left eye to his younger brother. This granted the brothers a mysterious ability to see out of each other's eye. The spell was broken by Kaftu's associate Count Karnak, the Mysterious One. Upon trying to return to normal life, he was plagued by constant nightmares that were only cured by the Challengers entering his dreams.

In an outing against a cult, Red is blinded in his remaining good eye and loses the connection with Tino. A successful transplant restores his vision but severs the mystic bond the two had.
