Mary Ann was an informant of Batman.
History
Mary Ann Warner was a woman living in Park Row who made her money by scavenging through trash and selling the salvageable pieces to second hand and consignment stores and who helps Batman by passing along information and gossip she hears in her crime ridden neighborhood.[1] Batman has helped her before and tried to offer her help in getting employment and better housing but Mary always turns him down.
When she started asking questions about Carl Ternion who Batman had asked her about she was able to learn that Ternion was really Harvey Dent, who had faked his death and had his face fixed up by renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Albert Ekhart.[1] Unfortunately Dent learned that she was asking about him and he sent a pair of thugs to kill her.[1] While Batman arrived in time to save her she was badly beaten and unable to clearly pass along what she had learned.[1] During her recovery at Gotham General Hospital both Batman and Robin checked in on her.[2]

- This version of Mary Ann Warner, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
