Matthew "Matt" Price is a new student at Teen Titans Academy.

Origins

Last year Matt woke up in the med bay of the U.S.S. Eisenhower. The Captain said he "fell out of the sky". Matt was lucky they were there to fish him out of the Atlantic and save his life. Waking up on that aircraft carrier was his first memory, everything before that was a total blank. Matthew Price is from an old poem though he only really remembered this name-- and since he needed one, he took it.[1]

Teen Titans Academy

Sometime during the school year at the Titans Academy Matt was sitting in the stands watching a baseball game at the school compound when he was suddenly overwhelmed by Tooby's cries for help. He immediately sought out the source of the panic, Marvin, in front of a burning barn on the property of his parents. With Marvin's mother and a litter of kittens trapped inside, the two of them reluctantly collaborated and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread. The property was saved but the barn unfortunately burned down completely.

Later, at the family dinner, Matt expressed confusion on why the Murakami family got together every evening to eat, brought up by the fact that he did not have any parents of his own. This moved something within Marvin's father who immediately welcomed him into the family.

Powers

  • New God Physiology: Matt obviously isn't human as he sports several superhuman traits reminiscent of Superboy, a fact that everbody is quick to remind him of much to his dismay. The true origin of Matt's powers is not yet confirmed. However, due to a lack of freeze-breath and the particularity of his energy projection he may be a wayward New God.[2]
    • Enhanced Hearing: Matt's hearing is sensitive enough to hear the cry for help of a familiar voice over a vast distance.[3]
    • Self-Propelled Flight: He capable of flying long distances, such across the state of New York.[3]
    • Superhuman Durability: In addition to general durability, Matt can withstand fire.[3]
    • Superhuman Strength: Matt has displayed strength enough to carry a person at his size while flying.[3]
    • Omega Beams: Matt can fire concentrated angled energy beams from his eyes similar to Darkseid, which does not feel hot to him. He does not yet have complete control over this newfound ability, which appeared to be triggered by a change in emotion.[2][4]

Weaknesses

  • Power Instability: Matt appears to still be growing into his powers.[2] His enhanced senses are especially an issue for him. Additionally, he may not be as durable yet, feeling the claws of a kitten digging into his skin.[3]
  • Amnesiac: He doesn't recall anything about himself or his life prior to being found by the crew of the U.S.S. Eisenhower.

  • To his frustration, he is often confused for a Superboy because of his Kryptonian-like powers, black hair, and blue eyes. Despite the similarities, he does lack many Kryptonian abilities such as super-breath.
  • The fact that he has the Omega Beam ability, hints that Matt may be from Apokolips and have connection to Darkseid, though it's still unclear.
