Max Thrane is a sociopathic hitman and the supercriminal known as Ultramax.
History
Thrane was an hitman who worked for several people, among them was General Wade Eiling, who paid Max to kill a terrorist, just to betray him and call the police on him after he took out his target. [1]
Max was sentenced to death by electrocution at the Ultra-Max prison facility but during his execution a nearby Captain Atom lost control of his powers and detonated[2], blasting him and putting him in stasis for 5 years, when Captain Atom reemerged and was tasked to free him the stasis field that was trapping Max absorbed a good portion of quantum energy from Adam and mutated him in an incredibly powerful metahuman that the journalists dubbed Ultramax after he escaped from prison by stunning Captain Atom.[3]
He then proceeded to hunt down and kill his former employers in order to get revenge for his imprisonment but when he managed to track down Eiling he unluckily attacked his home while Captain Atom was inside, the latter managed to move the fight to the upper realms of the quantum field where their brains merged for a moment[4], showing him the existence of Genji Sato, at this point Ultramax kidnapped the teen and tried to exchange him for Eiling but when Captain Atom and Eiling made their move by attacking him he retaliated by blasting them with his full powers, action that backfired on him when Atom redirected his attack against Ultramax himself, almost killing him and putting him into a deep coma.[5]
