- Maximums was created by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness, first appearing in Superman/Batman #20. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Maximums first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in Superman: Lex Luthor Special #1 by Joshua Williamson and Eddy Barrows.
- The Maximums are a pastiche of Marvel Comics' Avengers and Ultimates.
- The Prime Earth version of the Maximums appear to be outlaws rather than a government-sanctioned superhero team like the originals, a reference to the Ultimates of Marvel's renewed Ultimate Universe, Earth-6160.
