Mercury is an old "friend" of John Constantine.
History
They met when Constantine was training to be a magician, and Merc was a little girl.
Merc was born with psychic powers, making her inherently strange to everyone. However, lucky for her in her opinion, she grew up in a travelling hippie group who didn't see her as weird for having powers but instead celebrated her individuality. The group was eventually split apart when they offered assistance to the mysterious stranger Constantine and, even though Mercury resented Constantine for that, she still had his back when he needed it in the future.

- Dimensional Travel: Mercury can see things that normal people can't, like wormholes that she can use to move.[1]

- Mercury was created by Jamie Delano and Richard Piers Rayner, first appearing in Hellblazer #14. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Mercury first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in The Hellblazer: Rebirth #1 by Simon Oliver and Moritat.
