  • This man in the picture is so cool and powerful.

    Nice to meet you.

  • When you upload an image, you don't need to add the dropdown box. Just add the template and fill it out as normal once it's uploaded. Otherwise, the image gets two templates and the system thinks it hasn't been filled out.

  • Not every appearance needs to be in the history section, especially not as its own section.

Of course I realised immediately I couldn't just add bits and pieces as I went, especially with the original Kirby stuff wedged in there. I have been - I'm sure you've noticed - comprehensively editing The Demon vol 3 issues for the past few months in the aim to focus and compile everything I need to add before attacking the main profiles. And while I'm flattered you've adapted some of my writing from my synopses, I'd appreciate it if you let me complete my research so a complete history can be refined. I'll probably write a blog before making any changes so all the Etrigan fans on the wikia can debate what is pertinent information and what is not. Thanks.

Ultimately, this is the best way of doing a character history - but it is also time-consuming and it is a responsibility that weighs heavily on one person alone. Somebody needs to know everything so that they can judge what's important.

    • I'm certainly working on it Hatebunny. Only 9 issues of The Demon vol. 3 to go.

  • I believe the use of the template should be restricted to connect appearances of characters that are somehow connected between different comic titles (crossovers) and/or characters who have long gaps of absence between issues. For characters who appear constantly on the same title, there's no need for that. Adding the template to list a chronological order of appearances is also a misuse of the template in modern comics.

The reason why the template has not been removed from several comic pages, is because most of us don't have the drive and mindset to track down all the issues that other users have tagged. It is not wrong, so long as it is useful, and creating a tag that indicates that Batman appeared last in the previous Batman comic and appears next on the next Batman comic is pointless, redundant and impractical.

    • Well they haven't been restricted, and I do have the 'drive' and 'mindset' to add them, and I don't see them as 'redundant', 'impractical', and 'pointless'. Also, I was mainly doing it for Etrigan's appearances in the issues.

  • Hi Capt. J

I have been following your edits to the Demon vol 3.

Can you explain to me the difference between the 'a' and 'apn' appearances you add? I know they link to other issues somehow but don't fully understand it and would like to, so you don't have to keep fixing my mistakes.

    Thanks.

    • I just saw Hatebunny's post below, are you sure doing it right because you're not adding issues to the code?

        Loading editor
    • Well, Hatebunny may be right, but every time I see the links to other issues, they have used an 'apn' so I assume that is what you should use. I also don't know any other way to use it. Hope this helps.  :)

    • Just use a. If all you do is add apn, don't.

  • Unless you're willing to track literally every single appearance of a particular character completely, avoid using {{apn}}. When it comes to characters who have multiple appearances per month (or week, even - like Batman), apn stops being very useful.

    • Ok, sorry. I am interested in lesser known heroes such as Blue Devil and Ambush Bug, and was trying to track the appearances of every single character. I also don't know how to make the arrows work without using an apn.

        Loading editor
    • The arrows are only a function of APN, (apn stands for "appears next").

And, as far as I can tell, you're using the template wrong anyway. You have to tell the template which comic they were last in and which they are next in. It doesn't know automatically. Have you read the documentation on {{apn}}?

Since we don't currently have a functional way of listing character appearances chronologically, the use of APN is a bit of a fool's errand, unless you happen to know that you have read every appearance of a character (and haven't missed any). If you missed something, you'd have to go back and change every prev/next variable that came after the one you missed.

    • I know, I'm okay with that. Thanks for letting me know though.

  • That phrase is about as specific as "I found it in a book". Or rather, in a library, the size of all libraries of the world combined.

Also, please use preview before. You've had 21 edits to the article just today. That's flooding Recent Changes and making patrolling your edits difficult.
