  • Hey Grunny, I hope you're well. A while ago, I noticed that the module you created for us to do snippets to be captured by metadata scrapers has unexpected results on the mobile skin, since that skin can't read in-line style and just outputs the text we had hidden with display:none tags at the top of pages.

I contacted the wikia dev team twice about this issue, and it was suggested to me that if we used a verbatim to call on a mediawiki page with the display none tags in it, it might work, because the mobile skin doesn't show that stuff (or so I was told).

Simply shoving the invoke function onto a mediawiki page doesn't work, because the variable it calls on isn't on the mediawiki page. Having two mediawiki pages, one with an opening display none tag, and one with the closing div doesn't work to hide the text either.

So, is there anything we can do, either by a combination of the two, or some whole new plan to make this work?

I know something about the way our character pages are written ensures that scrapers just skip straight to body text (presumably lua related) but none of our other templates use lua (which is good, because I like to change them a lot, and I don't understand lua). Maybe there's something we can do in that vein, without going full-blown lua like the character templates are.

    • I was also just told that the mobile stylesheet includes the class ".hidden {display:none;}" - which is probably helpful in this regard, but I don't know how to implement it.

  • I see your examples, but I don't see why it should be having any effect on our footnotes.

If the infobox renders before any of the text which includes references, all of the references should be starting at one from the get-go.

Using DC Database:Character Template/Old works perfectly. (I checked).

Using the current Lua version of the template breaks footnotes.

    • Here comes another serving of code-pain!

I happened to use the mobile version of the site today, and noticed that the snippet thing you helped us out with is actually rendering on the mobile skin instead of being hidden like it's supposed to be.

      What can we do?

    • This is apropos of our previous discussion: Is the tweak you made to allow our DPL in the infobox to still let footnotes work applicable outside of pages with Lua templates?

For example, our Team template still has a standard wiki template, and it's causing footnotes to go wonky. Was Lua the key to working around that?
