  • Hi Haroldrocks. Can you give your recommendation here [1] about whether to divide JLA on Earth-1 and Earth-2? Both me and Mr Rinn have given our reasoning but there's likely to be no agreement.

  • So if a universe appears in only one story there is no need for only appearance templates ?

      Loading editor
    • Yeah. It just makes the page appear cluttered otherwise if the story is self-contained and every character is given that tag. I tend to reserve Only appearances for characters that make significant single appearances in an otherwise ongoing series.

  • Thor which I'm currently reading explicitly references destruction of DC Universe or a variant. It's not just an indirect reference, Superman and Wonder Woman picking up the Mjolnir has also been referenced. It's clear what was implied.

    • Something like that

    • I think Makkat1 is referring to rumors of DC being bought out by Marvel.

  • Regarding a source for my category edit, it's based on the Audio Logs in Batman: Arkham Knight.

  • Do you think that some versions of Swamp Thing counts as an misanthropes ?

    • Umm, my gut says, in most cases, no - but there's of course some gray area to it. I just think we have to be very very careful with hatred of humans as a species, or else the category will get flooded with every villain with a "destroy the Earth" plan, y'know?

My best suggestion is to be conservative with the category, and try to use it only when you're like "this guy's straight up, clearly racist" or something. But I appreciate you being conscientious and asking first, thanks!

  • Hi I want to thank you on your new cagegory Irrational Hatred. I too have felt like that some characters exhibit irrational hatred which defies logic. Sometimes the omly explanation seems to be that they hate everything, or spite others merely to take their frustrations of their bad life out on them. Then there are irrational hatreds like racism which defy science, there is no superior or inferior race. So I want to thank you for creating this category as it accurately describes the problem.

      Loading editor
    • No problem, thanks, I thought it was necessary too.

And just to be clear, the category has a specific emphasis on group hatreds such a racism and misogyny, but should be used in strict moderation when talking about characters who display a hatred of humanity in general. I mentioned on the page not "characters who want to watch the world burn", because otherwise I think it'd be a slippery slope of somebody adding the Joker, then all the Jokers, then any character mad enough to be a criminal, until the category doesn't mean anything anymore.

      But yeah, thanks again!

  • I recently created pages for DCeased: Hope at World's End Vol 1 (Digital). Since this is my first time doing it here, I decided to copy other digital comic articles on the wiki to be able to correctly make it. While it has mostly worked, there's a problem in the displayed titles of digital issues in the article body. It seems the apostrophe isn't working correctly. Also it doesn't correctly display the name of the previous and next issue.

      Loading editor
    • Hm, thanks for bringing that up. I took a look at the template - and, honestly, I'm not the template guy so I was a little out of my element - but, at least for the previous and next issue it seems you should be able to override it easy enough:

      | PreviousChapter = -
      | NextChapter = [[DCeased: Hope at World's End Vol 1 2]]

You can just throw that under "Editor" and plug in what you need.

In terms of the title at the top, I'm not positive how to force the template to identify a character it doesn't recognize. :/ User:Tupka217 is probably your best bet, he touched the template last and knows 1000% times more about it than I do.

But thanks again for taking the initiative with the pages, I appreciate it!

  • Harold, not that I want to insist but no one answered me in the Talk page of Cassandra's article. But all the section titles of the article reference comics in a really weird way. There are notes for that. I think it really is ugly and completely different to most of the articles in the Wiki. If someone like you, who's a veteran, tells me it's ok then I'll stop asking, but it looks really bad to me.

    Example: Cassandra_Cain_(Prime_Earth)#Joining_the_Team or Cassandra_Cain_(Prime_Earth)#Death_in_the_Family

    • Sorry, didn't even notice your message on the talk page.

And holy cow, yeah, we definitely try to steer clear of that method as hard as we can. I think somebody at one point mentioned how literally useless that link-by-word method is. What reader in their right mind is gonna find a source like that?

Thanks for asking first, but I agree with you, that's gotta go. If you don't mind cleaning it up, you have my full support.

    • That someone was me. It is incredibly poor UX, not to mention an SEO hazard as it could be perceived by crawlers as link spam.

Well I searched for that page because I wanted to complete the Batman & Robin Eternal sections of the various characters. Saw that Cass was missing that section. Now that I'm sure it's no good way of doing things, I'll manage to get rid of it while I add info. In the next two/three days I'll nail it. Thanks to both of you!

  • What was wrong with his weaknesses ?

      Loading editor
    • Blindness, for one, was for a single episode, so I don't really count that. He's not actually a "blind character", in the same way that I removed a bunch of Phobia categories from Super Friends pages because they were just fear gas afflictions. If Bruce got the flu and recovered in a single episode, we wouldn't throw {{Illness}} {{formerly}} on there. Same concept.

As for Phobia, the wording didn't specifically lend itself to a distinct "fear of guns" that couldn't be applied to all Batmen. "Immense distaste for guns"? Sure. But nothing in that description was indicative of a legitimately diagnosed irrational fear like other characters have for water or men or germs. Unless you can cite a source where a character literally states Bruce has an irrational fear of guns, I consider that fear definitely rational - not a phobia.

        Loading editor
    • Hmmm maybe that can be put under PTSD and guns bring out bad memories for him ?

        Loading editor
    • PTSD is also something that needs an explicit reference.

        Loading editor
    • Exactly what Tupka said. It's not our job to diagnose the characters.

  • The Black Lantern Ring gives his name as Deacon Joseph Blackfire of which Deacon is a known given name. To my knowledge none of the other rings have ever referred to a title in there choosing such as Dr. Prof, Deacon ect. • While I appreciate the attention to detail about the lack of title, I guess I find it inversely evidential that the ring wouldn't choose to say his middle name (or double-first name?).

I think your evidence is compelling enough, and the discussion is bigger and vaguer than how we two people interpret those panels, so I'd be fine if you added your information back, with a bullet point in the Notes with your sources and our different interpretations.

        Loading editor
    • Actual the rings have used middle names it's where we find Jessica Cruz middle name of Vivana and i assumed Joseph was a middle name like Luthor's but you do make a point since the rings have not always used middle names though like i said to my knowledge a ring has never, but i could be wrong, used a title. I will have to consider it now that you have given me something to ponder. May ask in the forums and get a consensus. If i do decide to re add i do like the notes idea.
