  • For C, the first volumes of any series can be entered as "Suicide Squad #54" or "Suicide Squad Vol 1 54". Both are valid and neither is preferred.

  • Hello!

Thank you for uploading new content to the DC Database project!

We have lots of images in our database, 134,565 in fact, and in order to keep them organized we use a system of naming, categories and licensing added to each.

    1. Please review our Naming Conventions for Images. Images are categorized by name, so a descriptive name rather than a string of numbers is important.
      1. As a guide, look what other images in a character's gallery are called, and continue with the same name and number. If you upload a first image of a character, use "[Name] [Universe] 001". Do not use parentheses, or the full pagename. Ignore the Universe designation if it is a New Earth character.
      2. Issue covers should be given at least the title of the series, the volume and the number. A name similar to the issue is preferred: "Title Vol 1 1". Textless covers should be called "Title Vol 1 1 Textless". Files that do not indicate the issue number will be deleted.
    2. Images should be no less than 300px wide, unless no bigger image is available.
    3. Add the Image Template to the images you upload. This is mandatory. Fill it in as detailed here, or below.
    4. Selecting the proper license is vital to properly maintaining our images. Please choose the license which best describes the image you are uploading. The most commonly used are 'Comic Single Panel' and 'Comic Cover', respectively.
    5. Other fields that should be filled in: Issue, Subject1, Artist. Add Source if you've taken it from a different site. If you've taken it from a different site and don't know the issue, DO NOT UPLOAD IT.

For a more in-depth guide, see Help:Image Template Hub. In addition, please take a moment to review our policies page and more specifically our image policy.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in reply to this post and our admins will explain how you can improve for next time.

  • The "Vol 1" is a naming convention because of limitations to MediaWiki; it should not be named in regular text. Issues need to be linked with the {{c}} template; this is not optional.

Additionally, each trivia point or note should start with a bullet.

  • Maybe being this up on the Policy Forum to see if this is a supported good idea.

Right now the Database doesn't use succession boxes for characters - and there are a lot mre potential uses than just the American Presidents.

    • That said, I can't claim to understand that the objection from Byfield actually is. Particularly that part about the database not using succession boxes.

Apparently it is meaningful enough that he went through the trouble of reverting my inclusions. I'll be darned if I can follow his logic in so doing, though. LuisDantas (talk) 17:41, April 20, 2014 (UTC)

    • Primarily it's that succession boxes applied to characters in works of fiction set in a shared universe are tenuous at best - they are only as valid as the most recent story. Writers and editors can and have inserted and removed characters after the fact. And then there is the tendency for fan WAG to fill in sections of a succession that hasn't appeared in print.

And then there is the following:

      • These type of boxes become more of a time sink than they are worth for upkeep.
      • Having this type of 'box on pages for what are generally tertiary characters is out of step when they are not used for secondary or primary characters. It is very unlikely that these would wind up on pages like the New Earth GLs, Robins, Starmen, or Batman.
      • Since not every President has appeared in a comic, having this type of 'box can present a problem of seriously unwanted red links. General practice on the Database is that a character page is never created for a character that has neither appeared or been mentioned in a story. There was also talk at one time that one-off appearances and mentions should not warrant a page either.
      • And there has been a point made that pages for adaptations of real people - as well as real places - should focus on the in-universe material presented in the story and rely on external links for readers to get a background on the real world person. The succession box for the PotUS generally falls under that "go look it up on Wikipedia with this link" process.

  • From what I understand, there is a move to phase this template out and it shouldn't be added to articles.

    • Hatebunny wrote: My view was that we should use it within a series on more minor characters so that people can jump from appearance to appearance of say, someone like Anton Arcane as opposed to Batman. One is more useful than the other.

      That runs into two things:

      • Assuming that the character's appearances have all been added, jumping to the Appearance category shows a linear listing of a characters appearance within a series.
      • The usefulness pf limiting it to a specific series goes out the window with cases where a character, or storyline, wanders from series to series.

      • There's no reason not to have two ways of doing something.
      • I didn't mean to say we should limit it to just one series, but that it should be used within a series. A character like Angle Man or some other random villain might have appeared in the 80s in Wonder Woman, and then much later in 2000s Catwoman. That kind of character is easily trackable.
