  • Nice job, dude! It was nice to watch you fill the voids of those books. GC was on my to-do-list and now it's not thanks to you! Keep it up!

    • Oh ha ha. Thanks. I actually completed it a year ago when I first started here. I had batched up a bunch of stuff to get the superman badge and just finally got to posting these. Having said that, I got too busy on day 350 and I couldn't find time to get to a computer and I missed updating a day. So back to square one I guess. Crazy that I made it to 350 before missing a day!

    • Wow...so close...that's a bummer. Something similar happened to me around day 300 but I managed to do a minor edit just in time to update the counter. It was so stressful... Anyway, I believe you can do it!

    • Maybe! Wikia is considering retiring the badge so we'll see. I have another wiki where I had contributed everyday and it just reset to 0 for no reason. Staff said it was 'just a bug.' They said that due to this issue, they have found many users are frustrated and are in discussion of potentially retiring it as "badges are supposed to be fun." You may be the last highlander to achieve it here...

  • Just wanted to say thanks for correcting some of my recent contributions. Today was the first time I edited an article ...

    • You're doing great, and we all start new somewhere. I loved reading through the Waid run of Flash Vol 2. I planned on doing it again some day. Hope you enjoy!

    • Believe it or not, I always was a Marvel guy but I also wanted to sink mey teeth into some DC stuff (e.g. Flash and Batman) for many years. As Mark Waid is a favorite author of mine I thought starting The Flash with his run would be a good idea. I am not disappointed so far ...

    • Lol, that's almost the same story with me. I think in 2008 I started reading the Geoff Johns run and then the Waid run. I also loved Waid's Fantastic Four run!

    • Thanks for wanting to contribute. It's good to see you have a passion for splitting out PE and NE and all that fun stuff. May be you can check out some existing pages first before jumping into changes.

The name can be anything, as long as you're consistent and it makes sense (usually two-letter abbreviation+issue number). If you're using spaces (like <ref name="Flash Vol 2 182">{{c|Flash Vol 2 182}}</ref>) you have to use ". If you're reusing the source, you only need to add <ref name=FL128/> (note the extra /).

Hope that helps you to add citations and references.

Your changes were reverted because you have to cite your sources. We're not 100% perfect at this, but we try.

Also, a minor note but I think it could be written a little more descriptive. Usually we give a brief description of character and their overall spot in the universe. Then we go into history and source materials separated by subsections where appropriate. We also don't throw information out there for the sake of making it look like there's more content. Only add what's truly necessary to explain the character.

Keep up the drive to want to improve the cite.

  • Hey Unatratnag, nice work on the GCPD pages you've been making. I just had a few notes for you, when creating pages in general:

    • Don't link the name in the "RealName" field. The template automatically links it, so it messes with the entire character template and causes a script error when you do.
    • Follow naming conventions when making pages and when linking to other pages in articles. For instance you made the page: Matthews (new earth) when it should have been: Matthews (New Earth). I've marked it to be moved, so please don't go and make the page again with the correct designation.

Thanks, and happy editing! :) Let me know if you have any questions!

  • Hello!

Thank you for uploading new content to the DC Database project!

We have lots of images in our database, 134,648 in fact, and in order to keep them organized we use a system of naming, categories and licensing added to each.

    1. Please review our Naming Conventions for Images. Images are categorized by name, so a descriptive name rather than a string of numbers is important.
      1. As a guide, look what other images in a character's gallery are called, and continue with the same name and number. If you upload a first image of a character, use "[Name] [Universe] 001". Do not use parentheses, or the full pagename. Ignore the Universe designation if it is a New Earth character.
      2. Issue covers should be given at least the title of the series, the volume and the number. A name similar to the issue is preferred: "Title Vol 1 1". Textless covers should be called "Title Vol 1 1 Textless". Files that do not indicate the issue number will be deleted.
    2. Images should be no less than 300px wide, unless no bigger image is available.
    3. Add the Image Template to the images you upload. This is mandatory. Fill it in as detailed here, or below.
    4. Selecting the proper license is vital to properly maintaining our images. Please choose the license which best describes the image you are uploading. The most commonly used are 'Comic Single Panel' and 'Comic Cover', respectively.
    5. Other fields that should be filled in: Issue, Subject1, Artist. Add Source if you've taken it from a different site. If you've taken it from a different site and don't know the issue, DO NOT UPLOAD IT.

For a more in-depth guide, see Help:Image Template Hub. In addition, please take a moment to review our policies page and more specifically our image policy.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in reply to this post and our admins will explain how you can improve for next time.

  • A regular reference would be <ref>{{c|Flash Vol 2 182}}</ref>. If you want to reuse that source, you have to use refname. It's simple: <ref name=FL128>{{c|Flash Vol 2 182}}</ref>.

The name can be anything, as long as you're consistent and it makes sense (usually two-letter abbreviation+issue number). Hope that helps you to add citations and references.

  • Hi, welcome to DC Database! Thanks for your edit to the Flash: Iron Heights page.

Please leave me a message if I can help with anything!

      Loading editor
    • I'm unclear why the updates to the issue of Flash: Iron Heights #1 was marked as "out of universe, majorly out of universe" when the synopsis follows the plot per the issue?

        Loading editor
    • I know I wasn't asked, but anyway. The problem with your edit was that you described the story as a reader. Your first sentence was "In a black and white flashback, we see...". When writing a synopsis, you must do it from the perspective of a historian inside the DC universe. You must write as a reporter inside the comic would do it. The use of in this issue; in the previous comic; In this flashback or we see is incorrect.

The {{History Needed}} template points it out:

      • Articles should be written from an "in-universe" perspective as if they were written by a historian living in the DC Universe.

      Hope that helps.

        Loading editor
    • Thanks SforHope, I clearly didn't follow the guidelines from a POV writing perspective and appreciate you pointing it out. When someone writes feedback stating "out of universe" it can easily be misconstrued to imply that they are using a different universe of the character within the comic world.

To address Tupka217, it was clearly rude to state "out of universe, majorly out of universe" twice to a new contributor of a free service. It's clearly hard work to admin a wikia page, but work with your contributors, don't denigrate their efforts.

    • There is one other small thing coding wise, you don't need to force paragraph breaks with <br />. Adding a blank line between the paragraphs is all that is needed.
