Metal Wars is a term coined by Doctor Multiverse[1] to describe the two major Crises involving invasions of Prime Earth by the forces of the Dark Multiverse.
The first Metal War was triggered by the rise of Barbatos, the Master of the Dark Multiverse, and his Dark Knights—twisted versions of Batman led by the Batman Who Laughs.
The second Metal War began after the Mother of the Multiverse, Perpetua, defeated the Justice League and enabled a new invasion of Prime Earth by the Batman Who Laughs and the reformed Dark Knights. This culminated in a cataclysmic battle that brought about the death and rebirth of Creation.
The first Metal War was featured in the 2017–2018 Dark Nights: Metal event, written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo. The second Metal War was featured in the 2020 sequel event Dark Nights: Death Metal, also by Snyder and Capullo.
