Mikhail Mxyzptlk was an exchange student in Smallville with mind control powers.
History
Mxyzptlk hailed from a Balkan family, which was said to be able to control the hand of luck (thanks to a mind control ability, that was passed down through the generations). Mikhail came to Smallville, as an exchange student, which had been set up by LuthorCorp. Mikhail set himself up as a bookie at Smallville High School and used his ability to influence the results of the school's football team. He soon drew the attention of Lex Luthor, Chloe Sullivan and Clark Kent. The last one being on the football team. After Chloe had uncovered his ability, she used a radio transmitter to jam it. Enraged, Mikhail took Chloe hostage and tried to force Clark to throw the next game. Unbeknownst to Mikhail, Clark possessed powers of his own and was able to take him out and free Chloe.[1]
Mikhail was arrested, but Lex soon got him out. Mikhail had seemingly lost his ability to control others permanently, but Lex assured Mikhail that there was a way to recover his ability and took him to 33,1: a secret LuthorCorp project, that studied and experimented on people with metahuman abilities.[1] Eventually, Mikhail was returned home, without his metahuman ability. Something that Mikhail's uncle greatly appreciated.[2]
