History
Earth-Two & New Earth
Growing up in upstate New York, young Rex "Tick Tock" Tyler found an affinity for chemistry, particularly those areas involving biology. Working his way through college, he landed a job researching vitamins and hormone supplements at Bannerman Chemical. A series of discoveries and accidents led him to develop the "miraculous vitamin" or Miraclo. In animal testing, concentrated doses of this "vitamin" gave a charge of strength and vigor to the test mice.
Keeping the discovery of Miraclo a secret, Tyler decided that human trials would be limited to the only subject he could trust... himself. Taking a dose, Rex found that his own strength and vitality and speed increased to super-human levels. However, the human body could only process the Miraclo for an hour at a time, whereafter the subject was weakened and returned to human strength levels.
Improvements and refinements to the basic Miraclo recipe were made by Rex Tyler throughout his career. For instance, one early version of Miraclo, that was stolen from Tyler's workplace in 1941, was effective and safe for consumption by persons other than Rex Tyler.[1] Later versions would not be so.
Hourman derives all his super-human abilities from Miraclo.
Some of Rex Tyler's notes on Miraclo somehow found their way onto the open market, where they were used by amoral chemists to create a harmful super-stimulant known as "Venom".[2]
Earth 2
In Earth 2 continuity, Thomas Wayne uses Miraclo in order to serve as the second Batman. This world's version of Miraclo was invented by Rex Mason, rather than Rex Tyler.[3]
Prime Earth
The drugs were used as the basis for Project Damage.
Side-effects
- Addiction;
- The user will abstain of Miraclo 1 hour before other dose;
- Miraclo leukemia: Excessive damage sustained by user when the pill is affecting his body will become permanent.
Known beings who can be affected
Notes
- In Earth 2 continuity, the active ingredient of Miraclo is a special form of phosphorus, which bonds temporarily with the ATP in muscle cells to create "Adenosine Quad-Phosphate" which energizes the cells. The energy released gives the subject increased strength, limited invulnerability and heightened stamina for about an hour. After that time, the "AQP" burns itself out, and the waste toxins generated need to be eliminated in the bloodstream over about a 24 hour period.
Trivia
- Miraclo provided some of the inspiration for Mirakuru.
