Quote1 I'm sure some of you are asking: why is he wearing a mask? I'm not hiding who I am. I'm showing everyone who they really are. Because I'm The Mirror. I am you and you are me--we are Gotham. Quote2

Mirror is a foe of Batman and his allies, who believed that masked vigilantism was the cause of Gotham City's many problems. He apparently killed himself after a fight with Batman, in order to give his cause a martyr.

The Mirror appeared in Gotham City in the wake of the Joker War, rallying the growing anti-vigilante sentiment into a movement he called the "Gargoyle Hunters".[1] With the motto "No More Bats", the Hunters interfered with the operations of Gotham's vigilantes, in hopes of getting them to unmask.[2] Mirror also attempted to align his movement with anti-mask mayoral candidate Christopher Nakano, offering dirt on his political opponents, but Nakano didn't take kindly to Mirror's own use of a mask.[3]

After days of rallying the people against vigilantes, Mirror led a march of people across Gotham, giving an anti-mask speech that was broadcast across the city. The march was met by a group of counter-protestors, each wearing imitation masks of various members of the Batman Family. Mirror eagerly started a fight between the two groups, luring Batman himself into the fray. Mirror fought Batman for a moment, but when it became apparent he would lose, he decided to make himself a martyr, jumping into the river and detonating a hidden explosive, apparently killing himself.[3]

Abilities

  • Batman drew some connection between Mirror and the Underbroker due to similarities in their costumes, but remarked that Mirror's mission did not fit the Underbroker's motives.[3]
