Mister Mind is an intelligent worm, born on Venus. He is the founder and leader of the infamous Monster Society of Evil and one of Captain Marvel's most persistent foes.

The super-intelligent worm that became known as Mister Mind was born on the Planet Venus in an unknown dimension of the Multiverse. This planet was inhabited by several species of brainless night-crawlers, slugs, and maggots; however, Mister Mind rose above his invertebrate surroundings, and eventually developed both his "special glasses" and "audio-amplifier."

Picking up other-dimensional radio signals on his world, Mister Mind grew fond of Earth radio programs, especially the comedy of ventriloquist Edgar Bergen, and traveled to Earth to meet his idol, Bergen's dummy Charlie McCarthy. On his trip through space, the passage of the time-traveling Harbinger accidentally shunted Mind through dimensions to Earth-Two. Devastated to learn that McCarthy was only a lifeless dummy, Mind then resolved to meet the Justice Society of America, of whom he'd also heard on the radio. Finding the JSA headquarters empty, Mind decided to form his own society, the Monster Society of Evil, to draw them out, and recruited several of the JSA's old enemies.[1] After his allies betrayed him, Mister Mind fled through a dimensional vortex to yet another universe: Earth-S.[2]

Finding he had a taste for conquest, Mister Mind sent out a message across the cosmos to recruit a new, more powerful Monster Society of Evil, which eventually reunited all the Marvel Family villains. With his Monster Society, he set out to smash Captain Marvel and conquer the entire Earth.

  • Hypnosis: Mister Mind could make his allies resistant to brain injury, so in a fight they could not suffer concussions or be knocked unconscious.
  • Superhuman Durability: Mister Mind is really very resistant against electricity, having survived execution by the electric chair in the 1940s.
  • Silk Production: The power to spin very strong silk at fast speeds.
  • Decelerated Aging: Mister Mind could live for centuries.
  • Dimensional Travel: Mind possesses an as of yet undisclosed ability to traverse between universes. As was displayed with Mister Atom.[3]

Other Characteristics

  • Communicator: Mr. Mind wears a miniaturized transmitter so that lesser beings can hear his commanding voice.
  • Mindtripper: A flying machine capable of traveling through space, the Mindtripper appeared as a tiny helicopter with a large radio microphone attachment.[1] It was destroyed by Oom the Mighty.[2]

  • This version of Mister Mind, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series. Even though versions of the character may have since appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • Shazam! #2 was Mister Mind's first appearance in a comic published by DC Comics.
  • Originally, Mister Mind was intended to have come from the same universe as Captain Marvel, later designated Earth-S. All-Star Squadron #51 revealed that his world existed in an unknown universe separate from both Earth-S and Earth-Two and that he accidentally moved through dimensions due to fallout from the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
