Mister Miracle (Volume 2) #28 is an issue of the series Mister Miracle (Volume 2) with a cover date of June, 1991.

Synopsis for "God-Spawn"

With the latest threat averted, Scott reconsiders if he'll ever get a chance to have a quiet life. Barda starts to agree with Oberon when he says they are very different than humans, that their godly nature won't let them have the tranquility they so long have been searching for. Even Highfather feels remorse over his decision to exchange Scott for Darkseid's son years ago.

While they discuss Scott's destiny, the Ferbells, accompanied by Andy and Wally, arrive at their loft, late for the party. Upon entering and seeing Scott's suit, they assume they had a costume party. But Scott reveals to them that he is the superhero, Mister Miracle.

Their conversation is interrupted when a Boom Tube opens in their loft, and Big Breeda, followed by Parademons, step out of it, demanding Barda to return to Apokolips. But Barda, logically, refuses, and they engage in combat. Scott intervenes in the battle and takes care of the Parademons, while Oberon takes the civilians out of harm's way. Highfather, however, senses destiny is unfolding in this scene, so he decides not to interfere. The fight continues out in the open sky, but Breeda seems to be deliberately missing her target, and they notice it. The Mister Miracles trap the Parademons to give Breeda and Barda time to talk.

Breeda explains that Barda was bred in a Gestation Lab in Apokolips, using DNA of Darkseid's chosen, and raised at Granny Goodness' Orphanage. Breeda is one of those chosen breeders, and Barda realizes that she is her mother. Barda was Breeda's first natural child, but Darkseid took her to the Gestation Lab, away from her mother.

Barda meets her mother

Interrupting their conversation, the Parademons escape from the force field and attack Breeda, with new orders to kill them all. But Highfather steps in, who until that moment decided not to intervene and let Barda's destiny unfold and meet her mother. Mother and daughter reunited, Breeda turns her back on Apokolips, and Highfather vanishes the Parademons.

Back in Scott's loft, Highfather tells Scott it's time for him to choose his destiny. He explains that his true heritage lies in New Genesis, and the lives he had in Apokolips and Earth are false destinies. Highfather also questions why Scott, his son, is the only New God that doesn't have godlike powers, and urges Scott to return to New Genesis and learn about his birthright. Scott thinks about it for a moment and decides to leave Earth and go back to New Genesis.

Before leaving, they bid farewell to their friends. Scott trusts Shilo to take care of the Mister Miracle mantle, and Barda says goodbye to Kathy and Ed, and the kids Andy and Wally. But their most emotional goodbye is to their dear friend Oberon, who trusts them to find the "normal" life they so long have been searching for. With their last goodbyes completed, the New Gods leave Earth to face the unknown wonders of their destinies.
