Synopsis for the 1st Story
On New Genesis, Mister Miracle kills two Parademons with his gun. Since he arrived, Scott has been sent to a number of different locations by the new Highfather, Orion, to fight Darkseid's armies.
After a long day of fighting, Scott is back to his chambers with Big Barda, and he seems to not know how to use the shower and even whether it is on or not. Barda gets naked to have a shower herself, Scot tells her she's beautiful and she shies away saying she's too tall.
Later, Barda and Scott show up in front of the Highfather, Orion. Lightray informs them that due to the recent conflicts, the court has reinstated some formalities like kneeling in the presence of the Highfather. They both do, after some reluctance. Orion thanks them for their successes in the West, but also informs them that in the East the situation is tragic: they lost seven Gods and 250.000 troops to Darkseid's armies led by a woman they both know very well: Granny Goodness. Orion had previously thought it wiser to keep them away from her, due to the strong negative emotions that they feel towards the woman who raised them by torturing them, but now he's changed his mind: their anger could be an advantage after all. Thus, their armies are reassigned to Lightray's command, while they will go and kill Goodness at dawn.
During the night, Scott is visited by a distressed Metron, who proceeds to repeat the phrase, "You are not to know the face of God". Scott tries to tell Barda about it, but she wants to sleep.
In the morning, Barda asks the Mother Box to open a Boom Tube to Granny Goodness. As Scott starts thinking of Granny Goodness in a more indulgent way, Barda shuts him up.
Goodness is at the lead of one of Darkseid's armies, when the Boom Tube opens in front of her. Unexpectedly, she greets them kindly, as she thinks Orion sent them to negotiate a peace treaty, so she invites the two inside her tent for some jell-o. At the table, another God sits with them, naked and tied to the chair: he's Stormforge, and Granny is starving him to death, but she finds it funny for him to watch as others eat. Scott seems uncomfortable in this situation, but Barda claims she's only hungry and keeps eating unbothered.
In the night, Barda and Scott sneak out of their tent, kill a guard and enter Granny's. As Barda walks in, Granny shoots her in the chest and tells Scott to follow her as she doesn't want to talk by the door. Scott is confused, but Granny says there's no time to understand. She asks if Metron visited him the previous night, and Scott answers he did, but he thought it to be just a dream. Granny explains that Orion had contacted her to warn her of Scott and Barda's attempt at assassinating her, and to tell her she should kill them before they did it. Granny also reveals that she was the one to warn the previous Highfather about Darkseid's possession of the Anti-Life Equation, so Scott could survive. Last but not least, Granny tells Scott that a prophecy tells that Darkseid can only be killed by his own son, which may be Orion (as everyone thinks) or... Scott himself. Suddenly, Granny is hit in the face by Big Barda, who proceeds to kill her.
