Modern Comics #99 is an issue of the series Modern Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 1950.
Synopsis for Blackhawk: "Battleground on the Moon"
The Allied Scientists of the Democratic Powers launch an experimental spacecraft, manned by the Blackhawks, to the Moon. Their task is to prepare a landing site for a group of permanent colonists, scheduled to follow on the next spacecraft. Chop Chop finds zero-gravity cooking to be more challenging than expected. They reach the moon in about seven hours, land, and claim the moon in the name of the Allied Democracies.
Chuck and Blackhawk are ambushed and captured by enemy cosmonauts, who have a secret spaceship base in a cave beneath the lunar surface. Their captors, Telga and Zorak, are hiding out from their own government, who believes them to be dead, because they have found volcanic diamonds and plan to make themselves very wealthy. Zorak and Telga attempt to disguise themselves as Blackhawk and Chuck, and thus infiltrate the Blackhawks moon camp, but they get outsmarted and captured alive. Also according to Hendrickson, the so-called 'diamonds" that they found on the moon are just low-value industrial grade diamond ore. Bargaining for a more lenient sentence, Zorak and Telga go to work under Blackhawk's direction, building the docking station for the scheduled first ship of lunar colonists.
