Modora is a small European country nestled in the Balkans.
History
The Modoran government previously established a very isolationist policy and is not affiliated with the United Nations and have little ties in the international community, as their only product was the wool of a peculiar breed of brown sheep that is bred in the area. Its despotic ruler, Fando the Mad, sought to keep Modora as an idyllic paradise by purging all modern science and technology. In which he exemplified by destroying all roads and bridges to effectively cut off his tiny kingdom from the outside world. However, Modora's isolation dramatically changed when its citizen Bito Wladon became the super-villain Sonar and ambitiously sought to make Modora a superpower. Although Sonar's plot was foiled by the Green Lantern, Modora gained international recognition in the process and even created its first postal stamp.[1]

Notes
- There is an alternate Modora that exists in the Antimatter Universe and was the last European nation to resist being conquered by the Crime Syndicate of Amerika. The nation was defended by the heroic Lady Sonar.[2]
Trivia
- An old Modoran law states that anyone who helps out with the harvest is automatically pardoned and freed from his jail sentence, something Sonar loves to abuse..[3]
- In Green Lantern Vol 4 9 (published in 2006), Batman refers to an event called the "Subsonic Wars" which took place in Modora three years before the events of the issue. Given the name and location, it would seem these wars involved Sonar. However, the term “subsonic” refers to travel at slower than the speed of light. The term “subsonic” is often used in place of the correct term "infrasonic," which descibes low frequency sound below the lower limit of human audibility. Perhaps the Subsonic Wars refers to events of Justice League Europe Vol 1 45-50 [4] (published in 1992-1993). However, this would require extensive timeline compression. Regardless, the Subsonic Wars are notable because it was during the wars when Tattooed Man, then serving as a United State Marine, went missing. He was believed dead, but in fact, he had been captured by the "Kril Tribes" who tortured him for months before imparting upon him the secret of "sin-grafting," which is the source of Tattooed Man's Body Art Animation.
