Solomon is the Monitor native to the universe known as Earth-8.

Solomon is the first of the Monitors who emerged in the creation of the 52 Multiverse who developed individuality from the almost hive like mindset of the other Monitors and self-adopted the name of Solomon as an indication of his great wisdom to the other Monitors.

It is was revealed when Solomon decided to go against his brother and sister Monitors. But he was the first to decide an aggressive plan of universal containment by finding and eliminating any and all known extra-dimensional travelers, specifically the Challengers from Beyond. Solomon was able to convince most of his brethren to support him in this manner or at least allow him a free hand and not be directly opposed to his plan including the seemingly opposing Bob of New Earth. Bob later rejected Solomon's extreme attitude to "dimension hoppers" except in cases where these dimension hoppers posed an open threat to the multiverse such as the Monarch.

Solomon's plan of individual universal containment was ultimately revealed not to be a protection device for each individual reality, but a long-term self advancement plan similar to the Anti-Monitor. His plan was designed to increase his own personal power and allow him to become more powerful than any other individual Monitors referred to the others as the Prime Monitor which one of the female Monitors states is a myth. When Bob was confronted by Solomon and the other Monitors on Earth-51, he asked Solomon on the matter, Solomon revealed this plan and attempted to directly absorb Bob and Bob's powers into himself. However, he was unable to take Bob's powers for himself, Solomon killed Bob leaving himself increasingly distress of this predicament.

While the other Monitors were repulsed that Solomon would kill one of their own and his ambitions for becoming the source, they supported Solomon in the recent Monarch War as Monarch and his army appeared before them. As the Monitors battle his army, Monarch reveals to Solomon that his actions were the catalyst to the creation of his army. Solomon, greatly distressed, flees to the Monitor satellite, where he is snubbed by the remaining Monitors. Solomon is then approached by Superman-Prime, who wants his 'help' in finding his "perfect universe".[1] After suffering savage blows from Superman Prime without any resistance, Solomon then tricked Prime and tells him that Monarch is destroying the perfect universe, and Prime flies off to fight him. Darkseid then appears and offers Solomon assistance.[2] They go to Apokolips, where they watch events unfold. While the planet is assimilated by Brother Eye, and a large part of it is destroyed by Pied Piper, Darkseid reveals that it was Solomon who attacked Captain Atom in Blüdhaven, triggering his transformation into Monarch. When Darkseid reveals his plans to control the Fifth World, Solomon appears to the heroes still on Apokolips, warning them of the danger, and teleporting them back to Earth.[3] It is later revealed that the Earth he sent them to was the reconstituted Earth-51, as a way of stopping part of Darkseid's plan by allowing the Great Disaster to happen but only on a different world beside New Earth.

Following the defeat of Monarch and the second devastation of Earth-51, fearing that Solomon may resume his attempt to take their powers for his own and control them, the other Monitors banished Solomon from their ranks for his attempt at domination over them.

Solomon was then present on the Monitors' satellite, patiently awaiting Darkseid's next move.[4] After Darkseid's death, Solomon creates a small monument to him on the Source Wall, and patiently begins planning anew. He later returned to the Multiversal Nexus and witnessed the Challengers' agreeing to act as watchmen for the Monitors at the urging of Nix Uotan, who is impressed by the Challengers' selflessness and repulsed by his brethren's lack of foresight.[5]

It is currently unknown if Solomon is planning to resume his attempt to control the other Monitors or is merely maintaining his vigil of the Earth-8 dimension.

Powers

  • Solomon is the first Monitor to develop full individuality and adopt an individual name. Solomon's far more brutal nature and plots may have been a result of the far more aggressive nature of his source dimension, which is the source reality of Lord Havok and the Extremists.
