Quote1 I'd shore give a purty to see Maw an' all the Hoopieville folks. Quote2
-- Morton Murch src

Morton Murch, of Hoopieville, West Virginia, built himself a makeshift gas balloon, from blankets and a bathtub, got aloft in it, and was blown far out to sea. In the South Atlantic Ocean, Murch discovered a floating island kingdom called Felicia, and made friends with Silva, the Queen. The island nation was under attack by a rival power, Malabad, and Silva wanted Murch to teach her people the secret of flight. She placed him in charge of her Air Force, and he oversaw the construction of some extremely advanced antiaircraft weapons, which he personally deployed against an invading aerial armada. Thus he became the national hero of this distant kingdom, but all the while he pined for Hoopieville.

Abilities

  • Aviation: Using very inexpensive materials, Morton Murch fashioned a workable airship, which conveyed him thousands of miles away.
  • Chemistry: Morton Murch developed and deployed a poison-gas-neutralizing vapor, and then invented another gas, which changed human personalities, and applied it to an entire nation, thus ending a war.
  • Engineering: Murch invented and built a vast invisible volcanic-glass antiaircraft net, and a superelastic glass sheeting for airship construction.
  • This version of Hillbilly Hero, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series. Even though versions of the character may have since appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • Felicia is propelled across the ocean by a giant engine, harnessing volcanic gasses. Most Felician tools and other artifacts are made of molten flexible glass. Wild animals stroll the streets of the gleaming city. The perfect circle is the basis of all Felician architecture, engineering, and design.
  • Murch's entire military regalia consists of a badge, pinned to his civilian vest, with the word "GENERAL".
