The Earth-One timeline offers several interpretations of the end of the continent of Mu.

Mu was a lost continent located in the Pacific Ocean before its destruction, sometimes associated with Atlantis, and even confused with it because of similar legends about their end.

History

Earth-One

The Earth-One timeline offers several interpretations of the end of the continent of Mu.

Aliens from a planet in the Sirius system arrived on the continent of Mu. The large stone moai statues on what is now Easter Island were built by the natives of Mu to commemorate the mighty Syrian men at the site where they landed, but after granting them their scientific secrets, the natives misused these powers, fighting each other and unchaining a terrible disaster that sank the continent.[1]

Terravitans, a species of land-born monsters that originated billions of years ago and adapted to live in the sea during the ice age, attacked the Muans, Earth's first great civilization, in an attempt to reclaim the surface for themselves. The war between Terravitans and Muans led to the collapse of the civilization and the destruction of the continent. Makkar, the sole survivor of the Terravitans, awakens from his long slumber millennia later in the present era and finds a sunken continent which he calls Atlantis, indicating that Mu and Atlantis were two different lands.[2]

Another very different version of Mu's destruction says that 150 million years ago only the island continents of Mu and Gondwanaland contained human life; Mu was ruled by King Kandar and Gondwanaland was ruled by Queen Oarda. Kandar planned to conquer Gondwanaland by war, but Oarda thwarted his attempts by imprisoning Kandar. However, Kandar managed to free himself and, using his pet brontosaurus (the people of Mu used to use brontosauruses for sport), created a powerful weapon to destroy the Muvian capital, but which ended up leading to underground convulsions that led to the destruction of the two island continents, ejecting them from the Earth and forming our Moon. Only the Pacific Ocean and some islands of Oceania remained in their place.[3]

With the destruction of the continent of Mu, its people had escaped into space on an ark-like ship. Now they return to Earth, to find their former home inhabited by 3½ billion humans whom they deem too inferior to be allowed to live. They cause destructive natural forces to ravage various locales, and the Justice League is gathered to try to prevent disaster. However, while each member believes one of his team-mates is responsible for saving the world, it is actually three ordinary people who defeat the Muans. An Iranian leader and a Vietnamese woman unwittingly destroy artifacts being used to cause the catastrophes, while an American youth, whom the Muans kidnap, literally throws a wrench into their machinery, and wrecks their ship.[4]

The inhabitants of the planet Mars discovered that they were descendants of the advanced civilization of Earth's lost continent of Mu, which they also mistakenly called Atlantis. When their ancestors learned their land was doomed, they fled in rocket ships to Mars. Thanks to the documents that revealed their origin, the Martians also learned how to save Mars from doom as well. Among the most notable Martians in this timeline is Marsboy, the Superboy of the planet Mars.[5]

Earth-Two

The land of Mu is an island-continent that vanished 9 thousand years ago. Some time before its collapse, two factions led by Prince Ghu and his brother Lord Dallu were locked in a never-ending war on Mu, with Dallu trying constantly to shell Ghu despite being unable to see his position through the mysterious mists that surround the Misty Peak where Dallu's forces have gathered. His shells were actually swept away by a warp in time in the mist that surrounded the mountain to land and explode on present-day Paradise Island, and Wonder Woman searched them out in the past and dragged Dallu to Ghu to organize a ceasefire. As the shells bombarding Paradise Island were launched down the mountain from Misty Peak 9,000 years earlier, it is implied that Earth-Two Paradise Island in the Pacific Ocean is a remnant of the lost continent of Mu.[6]

New Earth

Around 145,000 years ago, Mu was one of the twelve cities ruled by the twelve master mages of the world, the Conclave of Twelve. It was formerly ruled by its representative, Dark Majistra, but after Majistra's apparent "death" at the hands of her young son Ahri'ahn from a disastrous effect of his intervention while she attempted to consolidate the Zodiac Crystals's power into her own, her other son Garn Daanuth took her place as Mu's representative.[7]

Once a prosperous city, Mu fell into disarray when the ice age struck the Earth and Garn Daanuth sought to enslave the entire populace and earned himself the epithet, the "Mad Mage of Mu". Even after Arion (Ahri'ahn) defeated Garn and stopped the ice age, the city remained in a state of ruin and became a refuge for villains and murderers.[8] Concocting a villainous plot to use a ritual and the Mystic Flames of Hjerta to eliminate all of life, the god of evil Chaon lured Arion and his companions to Mu and usurped the identity of Trykun to fool the mage. Angering him with attempts at his life and unleashing a illusion of Lady Chian being struck down, Chaon hoped for the mage to attempt to slay him, completing the ritual and achieving his goal. However, Arion saw through this plot and manage to end the ritual and punched the mad god into the flames to temporarily imprison him.[9]
