DC Database

The is a List of Universes, giving all known numbered worlds in the different versions of DC Comics' Multiverse.

Universe names have been treated fairly inconsistently throughout history so some standardization is necessary, even if the comics themselves never use it. Originally, numbers would be either spelled out as words or using numbers and there was no consistency in this.[1] Infinite Crisis used both methods while 52 and later works have referred to the alternate universes with numerals. During The New 52, initially worlds appeared with a numeral but without a hyphen, though this practice was ignored in The Multiversity.

This wiki uses the following standard:

  • Pre-Crisis/Zero Hour/Hypertime: Earth, Dash, Number written out (at least up until Fifty-One); ex. Earth-Fifteen.
  • 52 Multiverse: Earth, Dash, number; ex. Earth-15.
  • The New 52 and onward: Earth, space, number; ex. Earth 15.

Even though the spelling "Earth-12" has been used for three different universes, we disambiguate them as Earth-Twelve, Earth-12 and Earth 12.

Previous Iterations of the Multiverses[]

Pre-Crisis Multiverse[]

Below is a partial list of notable alternate worlds and universes with known numerical designations. Beyond these, many other alternate worlds have been visited or explored by denizens of the DC Universe. The mixture of Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis Earths provided by the Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Compendium can be found on its page.

Some of the supposedly destroyed Earths were revealed to live on in Hypertime, and even Earths that were destroyed (like Earth-Three or Earth-S) were found to have Hypertime equivalents.

Though this set of infinite Earths was supposedly restored with the reconstruction of the Multiverse in the events of Convergence, many years later, it was eventually revealed that the original incarnation of the Multiverse is known as "Multiverse-2'" and had remained as a rotting carcass, decaying since its death in the first Crisis. The however, the entity known as the Empty Hand and its minions, The Gentry, had been feeding on the residual energy of its dead realities, fueling the construction of the Oblivion Machine.[8]

Interregnum Multiverse[]

Below is a partial list of alternate worlds created by Alexander Luthor in his attempt to create the perfect Earth.

Post-Infinite Crisis Multiverse[]

Earths of unknown designation known to have existed in this Multiverse include an Earth similar to that of Justice League: The Nail,[28] a dimension home to a black President Superman that would be continued after Flashpoint in the form of Earth 23,[26] a recreated Earth-Prime,[29] and the home universe of Hot Pursuit, as well as possibly the world of All-Star Superman.[30] The Antimatter Universe is also present, with its incarnation of Ultraman appearing in Final Crisis.

Following the company-wide reboot in 2011 (see below), this multiverse was restructured with some worlds existing as before (such as Earth-1) with others changed drastically. However, DC still published stories set on Earth-16 and Earth-40 after the reboot.

New 52 Multiverse[]

 Main article: New 52

At the vulnerable moment of a reality-altering Flashpoint caused by The Flash, Pandora and Dr. Manhattan altered the timeline of Earth-0. Manhattan stole ten years from the timeline as an experiment pushed on by the unconcious will of the Great Darkness; Pandora's efforts resulted in a merging of three disparate universes; the DC Universe, the Wildstorm Universe, and the Vertigo Universe, the latter of which was comprised of those characters who began their existence within the mainstream DCU, but continued on under the Vertigo imprint beginning in April 1993. Other Vertigo properties remain disconnected from this multiverse. Their efforts echoed out into the rest of the multiverse, touching many worlds.

Current Post-Flashpoint Multiverse[]

Notable Earths not yet numbered[]

Even before the Rebirth of the Multiverse, many of the infinite realities beyond the Local Multiverse didn't have not an Earth designation. As a consequence of the Multiverse merging with Pariah's version of the Pre-Crisis Multiverse, an unknown number of Earths, which have yet to be properly cataloged according to Prime Earth Barry Allen, have joined the infinite realites.[37]

Hypertime[]

 Main article: Hypertime

The Hypertime is an infinite web of realities that includes all the Alternate Timelines and Possible Futures[76] from all the iterations of the Multiverse and an infinite number of alternate universes, some of which are copies or original versions of many realities from the various Orreries of Worlds. In the course of years, most of these realities also have interacted with the Prime Universes.[77][78][79] The Hypertime realities/timelines are commonly referred to as Hypertimelines.

Dark Multiverse[]

 Main article: Dark Multiverse

Beneath the Multiverse and the Antimatter Universe is the vast, roiling couldron of the World Forge, a realm of pure possibility, from the fears and hopes of the inhabitants of the Multiverse above. The best of these worlds are cast by the World Forger into the multiverse above; those that are not instead fall into the Dark Multiverse, where they slowly decay back into raw Dark Matter.
