The Muses are the patrons of the fine arts, worshipped by the ancient Greeks and the Amazons.

- There is also a group of psychic superstars operating in contemporary London with the name "the Muses". Their number included Cerys Tweed and Jade Peabody.
- In the myths of old, the muses were Calliope (Epic poetry), Clio (History), Erato (Romantic poetry), Euterpe (Song), Melpomene (Tragedy), Polyhymnia (Hymns), Terpsichore (Dance), Thalia (Comedy) and Urania (Astronomy). Only three have appeared, though the other names were used for other characters.
