Synopsis for Doom Patrol: "The Nightmare Maker"
A criminal mastermind known as Dr. Janus creates elaborate illusions of hideously nightmarish creatures and sends them out to terrorize various locales. The Chief sends the Doom Patrol out to investigate these bizarre sightings. Elasti-Girl encounters a giant sea monster and mistakenly believes the creature to be real. She struggles with the apparition in an effort to save the crew of a nearby U.S. Naval Destroyer.
Meanwhile, Robotman and Negative Man encounter two more eerie phantasms, a large snow-beast and an alien riding atop a monster steed. Robotman however cannot see or hear these strange creatures. He begins to think that he is going insane.
The Chief eventually discovers that these creatures are merely illusions created by Dr. Janus. The lead shielding lining the inside of Robotman's ceramic-metal head is preventing him from perceiving the illusions. The Chief informs the Doom Patrol that the monsters they are fighting are not real. After casting aside Janus' illusions, they successfully apprehend him. They learn that Dr. Janus is actually a man named Josef Kreutz – a former member of the Nazi Ministry of Propaganda.
