Mystery in Space #60 is an issue of the series Mystery in Space (Volume 1) with a cover date of June, 1960.

Synopsis for Adam Strange: "The Attack of the Tentacle World"

Unable to intercept the Zeta-Beam in sub-orbit due to atmospheric disturbances, Adam travels to a floating market in Bangkok, Thailand to intercept the Zeta-Beam at surface level. In order to prevent being seen, Adam tosses some Silver Baat coins (Thailand's currency) into the water. As the merchants dive into the water to retrieve the silver, Adam is struck by the Zeta-Beam and transported to the planet Rann.

On Rann, Adam is met once again by Alanna who informs him that the annual Rann Games are being held that day in his honor. Arriving at the stadium, Adam watches the events. Alanna competes in a Wind Current Race, but it is interrupted when the games are attacked by giant tentacles. Rescuing Alanna, Adam learns that the tentacles are attached to a small planet just outside Rann's orbit. Rann's most powerful weapons cannot harm it. The planet reveals itself to be sentient and introduces itself as Yggardis the living planet. The creature explains that it was birthed when the universe was formed and it's spent it's life going to many planets and scooping up it's lifeforms to use as food. Weapons prove ineffectual against the creature because it can adapt to any attacks, and so it travels the universe destroying life because it is a planet that cannot breed life.

Determining that there must be someway to defeat the creature, Adam and Alanna travel to it's surface, dodging the planets many defenses. Soon Alanna grows weak, and Adam finally comes up with a solution to the problem. Adam explains to Yggardis that it cannot populate life because it's brain impulses are carried by radiation that makes the planet sterile. Adam offers to help Yggardis to achieve it's goal of sustaining life on it's surface.

Getting equipment from Rann, Adam uses detonators to remove the "brain" portion of the planet from the rest of the body. Allowing the body to support life, while the "brain" portion can watch that life unfold. With their mission complete, Adam's Zeta-Beam wears off and he is returned home.
