Nathan Broome is the former fiance of Carol Ferris and the events of their breakup led to him becoming the Sorrow.

History

Origins

Nathan Broome was Carol's fiancé and worked with her at the Ferris Aircraft company while Hal Jordan was trapped on Earth. He met Hal and befriended him, eventually helping him foil Sinestro's attack on Earth.

Sorrow

After Ferris Aircraft went bankrupt Carol proposed to Nathan and the two went to Las Vegas to get married. But during the ceremony a Star Sapphire Ring reached Carol, who left to rescue Hal after he had been imprisoned by the Bureau of Sovereignty.

Feeling abandoned by the woman he loved, Nathan became distraught and retreated to their hotel room. He started to cry while holding his engagement ring, which got infused with all of his sadness and turned him into the Sorrow Lantern.

He tracked down and attacked Carol and Dove but he left when Carol tried to give him closure.
