Captain Metropolis (real name Nelson Gardner) was a dignified yet ignorant tactical genius and vigilante who founded the Minutemen in 1939. He was the ex-lover of Will Reeves, and a closeted homosexual.

- Racism: Gardner's judgement was clouded with racism, believing that Black and Hispanic people were inherently more lawless and therefore deserved less protection by superheroes than white people. He even dismissed the pleas of his lover, who himself was black, to help stop a white supremacist group as nothing but disillusions.

- This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the television series Watchmen and is an adaptation of Captain Metropolis (Nelson Gardner). The original character was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons and first appeared in Watchmen #1.
- Captain Metropolis was portrayed by Jake McDorman.
