Synopsis for "Merlin's Magic Marbles"

Luthor builds a Time communicator in order to contact wise wizards from the past. He is able to contact Merlin, whom teachs how to create a magic marble which turns the user into a 8 year old kid for a half hour. Luthor and his henchman Kinky uses the marbles to turn themselves into kids after commit some robberies, which distracts Superman's attention. Then Luthor asks for Merlin's advice again and the wizard gives him a magic potion formula that turns the user into a living shadow for 15 minutes in a dark night. As part of his criminal plot, Luthor causes a blackout in Metropolis, and drives a truck to Metropolis U.S. Government Mint in order to steal it. Superman finds the broken electrical wires and repairs them, returning the lights to the city. This makes Luthor and Kinky partially visible, and the police comes. Luthor tries to use the magic marble to become a kid again and flee, but in this time Superman is aware of Luthor' ruse and arrest him.

Notes

  • This is the first appearance of Lex Luthor in an animation.
  • When Luthor uses the magic marble to become a kid, his hair is black; generally, in the few occasions where Luthor is portrayed with hair in comics, his hair is red.
  • This is the first time that Luthor becomes a living shadow in an animation. He would become a shadow again in Superman (1988 TV Series) Episode: Night of the Living Shadows/Graduation.
  • This is the second time where Superman holds bare electrical wires in an animation.
