New Gods (Volume 3) #14 is an issue of the series New Gods (Volume 3) with a cover date of March, 1990.

Synopsis for "...Your Worst Nightmare!"

While confronting the Reflektorr, an Apokoliptian monster that manifests with the appearance of one's fears, Orion fights a giant, monstrous version of himself. But he doesn't realize that he is the only one seeing this creature, while the rest of the people on the streets think Orion has gone berzerk, blasting everything around him. Lightray, who just arrived on the scene, also feels the effect of the Reflektorr. In his case, his fear encapsulates him under a layer of rock, inhibiting his ability to fly. But Lightray uses his inner strength to fight the fear and get free from its effect. He helps Orion cool down and realize that he is just fighting a shadow of his mind. Even after the rampage has stopped, Orion doesn't want to explain to Lightray that he saw himself on the Reflektorr.

The Reflektorr escapes to the underground, and it ends up in the Habitat. Panic spreads among its inhabitants, causing them to set their city on fire. The smoke filters out to the surface, and Lightray and Orion follow its trail. They help the people evacuate, and Lightray extinguishes the flames. Following them in the car, Dave Lincoln and Eve Donner face the Reflektorr, but Eve manages to conquer her fears, freeing herself from the monster's control. With the crisis averted, the Reflektorr escapes through a Boom Tube to Apokolips. David asks Orion what did he see that caused him to go berzerk, and he replies, lying to them and himself, that he saw Darkseid.

Notes

  • The flashbacks in this issue reference the miniseries Forever People (Volume 2). However, that miniseries was retconned after the events of New Gods (Volume 4) #14. In that issue, the Forever People escape from Adon and return to Earth, making every one of their appearances between Forever People #11 (1972) and New Gods (Volume 4) #14 (1997), including their fight against The Dark, no longer canon.
