New Guardians (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1988.
Synopsis for "After-Burn"
The New Guardians' start to draw attention in California, and the presence of Extraño, Jet and Harbinger at an AIDS clinic makes it an even hotter topic. Jet tested seropositive on HIV, but Harbinger, having a connection with her and spending her entire life in a germ-free environment, panics at the possibility of having contracted the decease too. She crashes through the walls and flies away, while Jet and Extraño lose track of her. In solitude, she is comforted by Betty Clawman talking to her through the Dream Land. She convinces Harbinger to return with her friends and assures her that, whatever fate awaits them, they'll persevere.
Meanwhile, the New Guardians at the motel get attacked by a street gang hired by a Colombian drug dealer in retaliation for the Snowflame incident. They defeat the punks, but they fail to prevent the motel's destruction. They decide to get away from the cameras and find a new home elsewhere.
Meanwhile, just as Tom Kalmaku watch the events unfold on the TV, Janwillem Kroef has a spy checking on the Kalmaku family, and he has plans for Tom's wife, Tegra, and her unborn child.
