New Super-Man is a title part of the first wave of the DC Rebirth initiative in 2016. The title was written by Gene Luen Yang and illustrated by Viktor Bogdanovic and Richard Friend and it was based around Kong Kenan, an analogue version of Superman whose stories are developed in China. The New-Superman was an ordinary man, who was given the powers of Superman using technology. The supporting cast were also Chinese versions of the Justice League, which were also technologically augmented.

Ironically, the basic idea of the story was first developed in 1978 by writer Bob Rozakis. He wrote a story about Chinese versions of the American superheroes, who were given their powers using special technology. The whole idea was a simple gimmick to fill a Batgirl story in the then popular, Batman Family comic. The series was renamed to New Super-Man and the Justice League of China Vol 1 by issue 20.
