The Newsboy Legion is a group of orphans who sold newspapers on the streets of Suicide Slum in Metropolis. They frequently got into trouble, and had adventures with the local superhero Guardian. Their original members were the genius Big Words, the talkative Gabby, the tough kid Scrapper, and the leader Tommy Tompkins. The original group was active during the 1940's, and they grew up to become involved with the government's Project Cadmus. Their children later started a new Newsboy Legion, taking their parents' names, with the addition of a new member called Flipper Dipper. These children were later revealed to be clones of the originals. The Newsboy Legion was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, first appearing in Star-Spangled Comics #7. (1942)
