Synopsis for Bulletman: "The Railroad Saboteurs"

An elevated rail-line collapse and other mysterious accidents are plaguing the city's transportation system, and dozens of lives have been lost. Jim Barr finds physical evidence of sabotage, and reports it to his boss Sgt. Kent, who introduces him to Mr. Kort & Mr. Grenville (of the Great Grenville Transport Company), the worried owners of the city's two main transport companies. Meanwhile a crowded subway train gets trapped, in a tunnel under the river, when both ends of the tunnel are dynamited. At the police lab, Barr hears about this, changes clothes, and flies to the scene as Bulletman, the Robin Hood of Crime. The river is in his way, so he flies upstream until he finds a craggy cliff, and knocks it into the river, creating an impromptu dam, diverting most or all of the water (into unpredictable new channels), which improves the rescue team's access to the tunnel. Bulletman then gets a bit of altitude and crashes down through the riverbed into the tunnel, creating an air supply for the trapped commuters. Then he leaves. Back at police HQ, Sgt Kent is having another conversation with the Big Rail rivals, Kort and Grenville, with Kort making a big point out of behaving like slightly less of a self-interested jackass than Grenville. We learn that the Governor is leaving town on a train and security's a big deal and both of the Kents will be on the train.

Jim gets a tip that there's been corrosive acid found at Central Square, where the elevated trains run; he changes to Bulletman, flies there, checks it out, sure enough one support pylon comes right off in his hands, the tracks have already started collapsing, and just then a train is approaching. Bulletman props the tracks in place, using the pylon as a lever; meanwhile a gunman sneaks up close behind him; then the train is safely past and (thanks to his very keen hearing) Bulletman spins and back-punches this weasel, sidesteps a second shooter's bullet, and takes out that shooter with a thrown girder, then beats some info out of him: the next planned wreck will be the Governor's train, as it crosses the Storm River Bridge. Bulletman flies there and arrives just as the charge goes off; either the charge is premature or the train is running late, because it comes safely to a stop. Elsewhere on a siding along the main line, a gang of saboteurs have loaded a gondola car with dynamite, and sent it rolling downgrade toward the Governor's train (which is now backing up, to be rerouted). Bulletman spots the danger, rips up some rails, and sends the car back towards them; it blows up; he swoops in and catches the gang's leader; it turns out to be Kort, whose main plan all along had been to drive Grenville out of the transportation market.

Synopsis for Warlock the Wizard: "The Beast-Crooks of Dr. Andro"

Out strolling one evening, Warlock the Wizard meets Dr. Andro, who interrupts an attempted knifepoint robbery (of Warlock), by headkonking the robber with an ornate walking stick. But Andro then headkonks Warlock also, and leaves him on the pavement, while he carries away the knocked-out robber. It's a serious konk too, and Warlock is lucky that a cop gets an ambulance to him in time, and is hospitalized for several weeks.

On his way home from the hospital, Warlock sees a gorilla driving a convertible. He pulls over and watches, as the gorilla crowds into an armored car, rips out one door, loots the truck, and almost kills one guard, before Warlock intervenes with the Golden Hand. The gorilla manages to escape, with his convertible, but drops a knife at the scene; Warlock recognizes this as the same knife that was brandished by the mugger that was knocked out by Dr. Andro. Warlock does some speedy research in the "morgue" of a nearby newspaper office, finding story after story about missing animals and missing criminals.

That night, after a bit more detective work, Warlock and Hugin his raven visit an isolated estate called Valley Farm, and inside the main house they find at least six of the missing crooks, in chains. Then Warlock gets grabbed by the gorilla, and flung into an inner courtyard, where there's a rhinoceros; Warlock deploys the Golden Hand to corral the rhino. He finds Dr. Andro's underground laboratory; Andro displays his work and explains his plan, which involves exchanging the minds between the bodies of men and beasts. This exposition is interrupted by the man-brained gorilla, who wants his old body back (it's the original hold-up man, of course), and acts up a bit, then Andro shoots at Warlock, misses, and hits the gorilla-brained hold-up man instead. Seeing his original body die, the man-brained gorilla vengefully kills Dr. Andro, who empties the rest of his clip into the monster; they both die. Warlock the Wizard then magically restores the minds of all the other criminals and animals.
